Greasy Black Battery Cap Buildup??
While watering my three year old flooded house bank this morning I noticed that the underside of the battery caps have a greasy black buildup. Where has this come from?

I wiped the goop from one set of caps and it appears to be present on the bottom of all the battery caps. Any ideas? Should I be worried? Is this normal and I just haven't noticed it before?
