Genset engine mount help, do they have to be marine?

Mid 80 chevys have a safety cable suitable for this application. For smaller gen sets the older Volvos use a good unit for the front engine mounts If you can find one that hasen't been in a front end collision.

Drag racing, we used to chain our engines down.
Actually what we did was connect a chain to the frame on I believe the left side of the engine, had enough slack so the mount wasn't compromised, but if the mount broke which wasn't all that uncommon if you got a good "hook" with the crinkle wall slicks, the chain would catch the engine and keep it from rotating very far.
You knew you broke a mount when all the sudden the gear shiftier jumped to the right.

I've been meaning to add chains to my Yanmar as I'm not so sure the mounts would take a roll over?

The engine tie down cable was mostly to prevent the engine torque from lifting the carb linkage over centering and leaving engine running full bore and reving to distruction or the nearest cement wall .I know this how?

Need to be Marine? What a silly question. Of course they have to be marine or they could not charge you so much for them. If you want to pay more go for aircraft rated.

Marine engine mounts - if they are the ones intended to a drive motor on a boat, are designed to resist the torque and thrust of the motor as it pushes the boat along. When used for a generator, they are way too stiff.
Use the softest industrial anti-vibration mounts you can get away with. It's worth experimenting with.
Just have a way of restraining it all if the boat is inverted or a mount breaks.
