generator question 230v 50htz gen to 110 system?

Boat is a leopard38 the panel is a factoryupgraded panel with 2 30Amp cords on the panel it has shore 1 and shore 2 and generator 1&2. We have a 6kw mastervolt whispergen on our new boat. The tag says it is a 230v 50 htz generator. When running it and we switch over the panel to generator itis putting out 105-110 on each side. Spoke to the makers of the generator amd they say its impossible for a 230v 50htz gen to power a 110 system. So either the gen is tagged wrong or they are wrong. Does anyone have another idea? I just want to makesure everything copasthetic. The webasto ac units say they can run on 50 htz no problem

Well it is possible to get 110V from a 230V 50 Hz generator but would require a separate AC transformer. You cannot get 110 directly from the generator.

The European 230V is one hot wire and one neutral wire. The US "220V" is two hot wires and one neutral. Each hot wire is 110V between that hot wire and neutral or 220V between the two hot wires. So US 220 can be split but European 230 cannot.

I would get a meter and frequency counter to check the generator output but seems unlikely that the name plate on the generator would be wrong. Is it possible the boat has a transformer that converts the 230 to 110?

Changing the 50Hz to 60 Hz is a matter of adjusting the speed control to produce 60Hz. Once you have done that you will also notice a higher output. 110 will approach 120. Using a 240 to 240 secondary center tapped you will basically have the same set up as what is delivered in North America. The downside is that when you run appliances on 120 rather than 240 the current required to do the same work doubles and the wiring to your recepticles may be too light. On the other hand many generators have tap outs that can be changed to get different voltages. So if you are measuring it , someone may have already changed it and not changed the tag.
