Re: 'Game-changing' perovskite solar tech could be cheaper and more efficient

“... Perovskites, materials with a particular crystalline structure, have caused quite a buzz in the solar energy world. Perovskite solar cells are relatively cheap to make, and the efficiency with which they can convert sunlight into electricity has been increasing rapidly in recent years. Researchers have reported efficiency in perovskite cells of higher than 20 percent, which rivals traditional silicon cells. Those high efficiency ratings, however, have been achieved using cells only a tenth of a square centimeter -- fine for lab testing, but too small to be used in a solar panel ...”

"Eventhough it is still in development stage"

Let me translate:
"We need funding and investors"

If I had a dollar for every "game changing" technology that was in development, that managed to score a press release article looking for funding...well you know the drill.

I think what was missed was that since the material deposited is 1/1000 as thick as silicon and is therefore translucent. You can layer deposits all tuned to a specific wavelength of light. This means that each layer can capture 20% so they are predicting a 66% efficient panel.

Also, I further researched after and they have discovered a cheap means of scaling up. They now have the ability to spray the material into whatever you want to produce power like Windows in buildings or perhaps sails and decks, or your Bimini.

So, obviously this is not a 2 year thing but I think that given technologies like this it's inevitable that the Diesel engine goes away.
