Flush mount 12v LED Downlight

Hi All,

I am looking for advice on a 12v, LED downlight, flush mounted with Red/White.

I bought one and WM that was flush mount white/red and very bright. I love it. Need a place to drill a 2 inch hole to recess it. I'll see if I can find a name on it...It was about $100

If you can find what you like and determine the bulb type, MarineBeam makes several nice LED bulbs that internally switches first red, then a quick off-on to white. They also have several other options on cabin lights for you to browse through. I don't work for them, just a satisfied customer.

no, i bought a flush mount switch from amazon...

I know I paid $99 for the light, mine has a clear lens/bevel, but I don't see it.

I use the Lunasea LLB-46WR (Recessed 3.5” LED COB Light with Stainless Steel Trim | Products | Lunasea Lighting). But it requires an external switch. I liked this model as it screw into the ceiling, rather than just using springs.

Their flexibility has allowed us to replace bulbs in all sorts of light fixtures from down lights, fluorescent lights, to compass lights. Soldering is required. They are adhesive backed so easy to install. A ring inside plastic tubing around the mizzen yielded an "anchor light" that could be seen from 1.75 miles.

At first I thought it necessary to install a 12Vmax circuit, but the circuits all developed a capacitor failure. Even when direct wired to unregulated battery and charging voltages, the light strips have lasted for 9 years.

On my Jeanneau the white and red circuits are separate - which seems to me to be far more sensible.

I replaced all the 10W halogen bulbs with 1.5W LED and these seem to work brilliantly. Pun intended. A fraction of the power draw. Also a fraction of the price. Jeanneau use red glass for red so the bulbs being white is immaterial.

NB 10 of the things for £12 less a penny. So much for shelling out $100.

The bulbs are a simple swap for the halogen ones in the Frilight fittings.

Quite apart from being very expensive (+/- USD 150) it is only when you dig down that you realise that it is also so huge as to, each to their own, be gross. Nearly 6" across in old money.

I'm unclear if you really want "flush mount", which would be recessed lighting, or "surface mount" which is installed ON the surface, rather than recessed into a cavity in order to make the fixture flush with the surface. A focused "downlight" usually will require a refelctor assembly, which means a comparably bulky unit that has to be recessed--like kitchen and other home "recessed cans" lighting. With LED's that can still be several inches deep, between the assembly and heat sinking.

I bought a bunch of LED work lights at Harbor Freight (for $2.50 each) and wired four of them together in series for 12v. I replaced the white LED's on the ends with red. The result is 96 white LED's and 12 red ones plus appropriate cases and reflectors - all for $10.00. I've replaced pretty well all of the incandescent and fluorescent lighting on Scorpius with these units and they work spectacularly well.

Not quite sure where you get the idea of several inches deep. The focused spots on my boat require a recess of about 2cm. Whether the original halogen or the replacement LED (although all you need to do is change the bulbs). That includes the reflector. Either type of bulb fits horizontally.

It seems to me that this is a classic boat nut cracker. Call it marine and then double the price before adding a nought to the result. If the quality was any different one might begin to understand but it is not.
