Finding a replacement Voltage Reg Hunter 27

I have a Hunter 27 with a Yanmar YSE8, and a separate voltage regulator. The morons during construction bolted the voltage regulator up against the FOIL insulation! on the engine wall. Need I tell you want happens to a voltage regulator that has open wiring, a coil and resistor rubbing up against the foil over the years? If you have a Hunter 27 you better look at this!

The Hitachi voltage regulator model TL1Z-88 seems to have no replacement that I have found so far. Can anyone give me the make, model of the replacement for the regulator or send me in the right direction?

Chris

I don't have an answer for you, but all voltage regulators I have seen are either potted in epoxy or encased in a box. Those would have no problem with mounting causing shorting.

How about getting a small Hitachi alternator with internal regulator?

Funny you mentioned that I found one. Now when I get it I need to figure out how to wire it in. Thanks

This regulator isn't built like that. All the wiring connections and a coil on the bottom were exposed when they bolted it to the wall the foil covered insulation contacted the wire connections and eventually wore the insulation on the coil which the cause the fatal short
