Entec Genset Coolant in Crankcase

I'm trying to figure out how coolant can get into the crankcase on the Faryman diesel that powers the EW4200 genset. Service at Mastry (new owners of Entec) suggested the cylinder head. But, after pulling the head off I can see no way that this could be a way for the problem to happen. As I see it the worst thing that could happen if the o-rings between the head and the cooling jacket failed would be coolant leaking down the side of the crankcase not into it. However, I could be all wet. Please let me know since that would be the simple solution. Any opinions on how coolant could enter the crankcase would be appreciated.

I am not familiar with your particular genset but will offer the following.

If a head gasket (O ring(s) in your case) fails a leak down the side of the crankcase is not automatic. The last time I had a head gasket fail the leak was such that the coolant went into the crankcase only with no external sign of a leak.

Possible that sometime in the past the Faryman over-heated and the head warped. Guess I would install new O-rings and torque to specs, first. If that did not work then take the head to a machine shop and they can tell you if the head is warped and if it is possible to re-machine to fix.

On second thought, if you have the head off, take it to the machine shop first.

The first thing to check is the Johnson water pump. If the seals are bad the coolant can run along the shaft and into the crankcase.

Not familiar with your setup, but a common way for coolant to get into the crank case is through a oil cooler if you have an external type.
