Re: dual battery switches for 2 batteries?

It all depends on how its wired, and only YOU can find out by tracing the wiring. Here are the options:

Basic Battery Wiring Diagrams This is a very good basic primer for boat system wiring: Basic Battery Wiring Diagrams

This is another very good basic primer for boat system wiring: The 1-2-B Switch by Maine Sail (brings together a lot of what this subject is all about)

Switches? Plural?

What boat is this? Do you suspect it has been modified? How many batteries? How many engines?

Pics might help. Otherwise all we can do out here is guess.

its a Dockrell 37. it has one 4cyl engine I can take some picks later. the ground of one battery gos straight to the other battery and the pos of each gos into its on switch. one switch pos gos into the other switch while one switch gos to the engine. one battery is now fried. not sure if because I had it set wrong or if because of some bad 12v outlets that wernt fused. I removed all of the un fused bs and currently running on one battery but my voltage is reading 15-16. I don't want to ruin a new battery or ruin the one I have if this could b a 24v system

Re: Dual Battery Switches for 2 Batteries?

Something sounds off.

I seriously doubt you have a 24v system. It would be inconceivable to me for the 2 X 12v batteries not to be put in series at the battery.

Check any of the house equipment for its input rating (radio, lights etc)

However the 15-16v measured is high. Is this with the engine running? are you measuring 15-16v at the battery with the switches off?

Also are the switches you are talking about simple on/off or do you have a 3 ways switch in there (1-2-all)
