Disposing or getting credit for lead batts

After going round and round for the last two years trying to determine if a lithium was the way to go for us, we ended up purchasing FireFly AGM's today.

But now I am wondering what to do with the old batteries. There must be some way to get a few bucks from the recycler...

Any ideas on what the optimal method of disposal may be? Maybe something where we get a few bucks out of the deal?

Find out what their core charge is, anyone buying new batts would pay half that?

Here in Central America, lead is popular with the "Chatarreros" (junkmen). Ive been surprised in the past what they've paid for it (sorry dont recall exact #s). Maybe less of a market in developed coutries due to environmental restrictions, but I dont know. May as well contact recyclers to find out.

there is a core charge with battery purchase. if you donot use that you get to hazmat the lead acid batts safely somewhere. good luck.
here the core charge is enough to make a realistic and significant difference in price of new batteries.
last i heard, the type of battery traded as core didnot matter in the transaction for new different batteries..

We are not going to have an opportunity to take advantage of a core change.

rats. hazmat recyclers or lead buyers. if you know they make rounds near you, leave em out so they can get them.

Near me a couple of the Auto Recyclers (junk yards) will pay $5.00 each (or $10.00 as a core). I think the local battery distributors (there are two near me in CT) used to do the same. There was a time where walmart used to pay for them too but I don't think they do anymore.
