Deck Box for Honda 2000

I have some space on my trunk cabin top for a deck box to store my honda eu2000. But everything I find is either too short, too long or too wide for the space. I've looked at various deck boxes, dock boxes, coolers & pelican cases. They all fit into one of the above categories.

I need one that Goldilocks would love; just right.

We bought a deck box to store our Honda eu2000 from these people: Beachcomber Fiberglass- Stuart FL Marine Components
It think it's the 40"X18"X18". It's a nice box, but pricey. There's room for the honda and some extra storage space for other stuff. We even put a couple access hatches in it so we can run the honda without taking it out of the box. I think they make custom boxes too.

Careful -- you may cook the generator if it doesn't get enough cooling air through that box. Been there, done that when I tried to use a garbage can shed to shield contractor's generator from the rain -- it suffered from overheating even with both front doors open (oriented so one entire leeward side was open, with exhaust directed outward). The remaining 3 sides and top created an 'eddy' of warm air that acted as a heat trap.

Point well taken. If anyone is thinking about trying this, you can poke around the RV forums and find lots of examples of hondas running in boxes or enclosures. As SailFastTri mentions, it's important to make sure the unit is getting good air flow. Ours is set up such that both the engine exhaust and cooling exhaust air are directed out of the box through one opening, and there is a second opening that lets in fresh air at the other end. There is also a foam "doughnut" that separates the intake air and exhaust air so that the exhaust air doesn't recirculate inside the box.

We've had it running for two or three days straight in the middle of last summer's Florida heat with no problems. Maybe it will shorten the life of the generator. Who knows? It doesn't seem significantly hotter in the box than it does outside so I think its OK. In any event, all I can say is that it has worked well for us so far. Your mileage may vary.

As has been cautioned, you don't want to operate a portable generator inside a storage box.

I was thinking about a similar box - and found a nice idea on a fellows cruisers boat: He wired a cheap AC ventilator into the box to ensure proper Airflow. Just plugt into the second AC outlet. Takes a few watts from the Honda but runs as long the little beast provide AC....think is a good idea.

I saw a guy build one out of Starboard. It had lots of hinges and latches so the sides would lower down.

good sunbrella cover. Honda mounted on brackets or tracks etc. Remove cover for use.
