DC-DC boost converters, high-amps adjustable V ?

Any suggestions on the cheap side?

Samlex, Victron other high-end gear suggestions welcome.

But really, looking for a bargain, cheap Chinese at reasonable quality, plan to carry spares, no enclosure is fine.

Boost only!

Actual current might be 10-20A, so being more conservative for cheap gear, ideally "rated" for say 50A continuous. Adjustment of current not needed.

Nominal 12V ranges, input may go down a bit below that, want to be able to adjust output between say 13-20V, obviously even higher is fine. No display needed, will adjust using my own DMM.

Decent overcurrent protection is not essential, obviously can just use a fuse, but would be nice if doesn't add much cost.

Happy with eBay, maybe Amazon, but ideally a source that vets at least somewhat for quality, decent warranty protection without having to ship all the way back to China.

But I guess if cheap enough will just take a chance, buy a few different ones and let y'all know which were better that others.

Re: DC-DC boost converters, high-amps adjustable V ?

Good thread. All I need is 2-3 amps from a house bank through a fused 12g wire to a trolling battery. I'm going to leave the converter in the dinghy so I have a cost limit of about 20 bucks.

The Op has requested that I don't put my needs and ideas on this thread. So please go to charging dinghy from mother ship thread.

Re: DC-DC boost converters, high-amps adjustable V ?

Looks like would need to be custom ordered to get adjustable output between say 13-20V.

Also pretty low ampacities.

But thanks, looks like a good resource FFR

Re: DC-DC boost converters, high-amps adjustable V ?

We have a boost converter purchased from a vendor in China.

The MFG is MingHe
Model is BST-900W

PN is 421511639
We have tested it with 8V to 30V in and 48V out at 10A. Which was our design requirement.
Our one complaint is that it has a small fan for extra cooling that is bound to be a failure item after many hours of run-time.

It is programmable with a digital display and inputs and outputs are commercial terminal lugs and is a lot of converter for around $20 US.
Worked flawlessly in our test after the Techs sorted out the programming.

This looks exactly like what I'm looking for. if anyone can give me a link to purchase I would appreciate it. I'm assuming I can set it for a lower output voltage.

Re: DC-DC boost converters, high-amps adjustable V ?

Try a Analog devices/Linear Demo 1601 board. You will have to put a resistor or pot, changing out one resistor, to set it to your desired voltage output. You may also have to add some small heat sinks. 20A capable. I've been using one on the boat for 5 years now. It's buck and boost, transition is automatic. Very efficient,

We are in no way associated with this MFG/Vendor.
Their documentation is on their website.

Output can be less or greater than the input as this is actually a buck/boost converter.

Great reco!

OP since you like Amazon https://www.amazon.com/BST-900W-supp.../dp/B072545V9J

OP, here's a discussion on one of those more-knowledgeable forums I mentioned

And more: https://www.google.com/search?q=MingHe+BST-900W

Review of the 400W version by this guy, not so great, this is of a different 600W unit he liked much better https://youtu.be/cUpJs6Z41YM

Which appears to be this one here https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-600W-...-/170893208817

Re: DC-DC boost converters, high-amps adjustable V ?

Here's a version double the ampacity.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-10-60...-/182270058990

Note it's actually an amps limit, so watts is only high at upper voltages

Around 12V these apparently only put out 100W and 200W respectively.

There are apparently tricks to stacking them in parallel, read the comments.

Another good review from the same guy, compares all three briefly

The reason I like Amazon is because they've always corrected their errors and this controller is bigger than what I need but may be helpful to you. Link in previous postClick image for larger version
