The cheaper inverters will have both the hot and neutral "hot". for complete explanation you can watch the video on YouTube. knurlganr24 makes it I don't know how to post links from my smartphone. Edit I rely hav 2 take mure time proofreeding. : ) Edit: easy way to test if your inverter is this type is to check voltage between the neutral the ground. A safe one shouldn't have any

And I just noticed that on my cheap West Marine inverter both of the slots are large meaning you can put a polarity safety plug in either way
