Dad Never Thought A Dock Ladder Would Kill His Daughter

It says the 'electrical box' on the dock became filled with water, but it does not say how that happened.

This is a sad and strange story.

Wow, that is a sad story. Thanks for sharing, the more people are aware of this issue, the more tragedies like this will be avoided.

I'd never heard of the warning device the article mentioned. I think if I had a dock that people swam off, it would be a no-brainer to install one.

The article has taken the basic facts of the sad incident and embellished it with pure fiction, some of it nonsense. Search for the names and see the actual facts that are known.

This just sounds silly. It sounds like it's simply a case of an electrical fault in which there were victims. Unfortunately not uncommon. ESD? 😒

RCD's, residential current devices, are now mandatory in all new installations, including houses throughout Australia.

Very sad... however anyone who swims in a marina where boats are on shore power is asking for trouble.

What I have read is that it's really a risk in fresh water since bodies are much better conductors that fresh water. In saline waters, electricity can conduct well so current doesn't short circuit through bodies. So risk is greatest in lakes, as in this instance.

Very sad story. Probably one to be avoided with some more sharp eye for signs.

Where we are a complete disregard for electrical issues is often displayed. This or complete professional ignorance. We are in Canary Islands, Spain.

ESD is virtually unheard of in saltwater. You are in greater danger driving to your saltwater marina than you are diving in it.
