Re: Crimping heavy cables

I've just been crimping 4/0 cable with 16 ton hydraulic Chinese cheapy crimper from Amazon, after having tested a few. Comparing to a $1,200 crimper, the cheapy had a minor flaw in the symmetry of the crimp because the dies are lower quality, but the cold weld performance was excellent, which is what matters.

I cut the crimps open after test crimping and it was solid copper, edge to edge.

Soldering would do nothing for a good cold weld crimp. There is no space between the wires for the solder to enter.

Re: Crimping heavy cables

Filling with solder and not crimping....does this pose a problem?
