Clamp-on DC Multimeter

So, I'm back home and the boat, with my nice clamp-on DC multimeter aboard, is in Panama. Sure is frustrating working with the lesser meters I have here at the house.

I'm Looking to buy another good clamp-on DC multimeter (which will do clamp-on DC AMPs up to at least 100AMPs). The meter I have on the boat is Extech EX730 (rated to about 800A, but I don't need that kind of juice).

I really like the EX730, but I know there are some less expensive meters on the market. The EX730 is about $170US and I would prefer to spend no more than that, less would be even better, provided it is still a good meter.

Looking for suggestions from those with hands-on experience with meters they really like.

Mastech MS-2108. Good for 600amps, true RMS, AC/DC, in-rush current, etc., etc. A very beautiful meter for the price. I have two, and have bought five others for friends and clients.

Often use the Mastech instead of my top-of-the line Fluke 337.

You can find it on eBay, new, from a US supplier (important) for about $70.

That's probably the MS-2108A.....not the same meter.

The MS-2108 is $79 at Amazon. There's a California seller who has it for $66 and change, with free shipping.

These often sell at Canadian Tire, for $19.95. Not a Fluke, but wouldn't be without one, at that price.

So, looks like the big difference between the MS-2108 and the MS-2108A is that the "A" is an "averaging" meter not a true RMS. Correct?

The 2108 is a true RMS meter, has in-rush reading capability, measures up to 660 amps AC or DC, up to 600 volts AC or DC.

The 2108A is an averaging meter, no in-rush capability, measures to 400 amps AC or DC, up to 750 volts AC and 1000 volts DC.

IMHO, the 2108 is more useful for marine applications, and for $20 more, why not?

Absolutely, just making sure I understand the diff between the two.

I spent a little quality time today with an el cheapo averaging meter getting obviously inaccurate readings and that's why I am shopping for a better meter to use at the house.
