Charging wire circuit

When sizing both the alternator and house charger what is included to calculate the wire size? Originally I thought the ground needed to be but I have seen some conflicting information.

I guess you don't understand that is a chart showing you what wire size to use for the application you're asking about. Good luck, you can't fix stupid.

Oh I understand what you were trying to post however your comment was completely irrelevant to the question I asked AND even after I informed you that you obviously commented without reading the original post, you went and commented AGAIN while obviously never reading the post. Are you not asking what size wire to use? I understand that the forums don't exactly align the columns in the chart. It's still pretty well labeled.

No I didn't assume you had a developmental issue. I wouldn't comment that way. Reading what I posted I can see how you interpreted it that way and I apologize.

I was referencing the irrelevant information comment about chapstick, paper airplanes, and whatever else. More poking fun at myself than at you. I won't bother to comment on your posts in the future. Good luck.

What are you asking here? Wire ampacity? Voltage drop? Alternator/chArger size based on a house bank?

Simple answer, yes.......the ground need to be able to carry the same current as the hot.

Often the starter motor circuit return (ground) also serves as the alternator return (ground). If this is the case, it is a good idea to add a small jumper from the alternator case to the engine ground rather than rely on the engine block as the current path.

When you start talking about the battery charger ground then be careful about the AC ground (green wire) and the DC return (black or yellow). Different conductors for different purposes.

Wire ampacity depends on the total length of the run to and from the source of power. I.e. From the batteries to the alternator and back again.

to calculator wire size you need total wire length both ways and load amps.

so you pick the charger you want based on your battery size (or AC input size), then size for wire for the charger.
