We used large wall mounted oscillating 240VAC fans cheap to buy and really move air, motors dont last long unless you use pure sine wave inverter though

Never heard about fires from 02 cool fans, could see how it would be possible hooking up directly to a circuit fused much higher than .5 amp. Would recommend installing a fuseholder in the feed line as I did or putting on low amp circuit.

Feeling HOT HOT HOT!

Been in the 90 to 100 degree F here on the Isle of Long almost all last week. My Carfamo model 747
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: FEELING HOT, HOT HOT? WHAT WORKS!
has been operating pretty much 24/7 during that time. It has been on board I think for over ten years. Never felt the need for air conditioning as long as I could turn it on.

For "The Doctor" who's going to buy Caframo,

This is Ann writing, not Jim.

We, too, started out with Hella fans, 2 speed. They lasted quite well, IMO. HOWEVER, dust happens at sea and near land, and the Hella's are a PITA to dust! We have a Caframo in the galley, and it is quiet, and the blades are easy to clean with a wipe of the sponge while washing up. We also have a TMC oscillating fan from Whitworth's [an Australian Chandlery chain] on sale. It quit oscillating in its first year, is quite noisey and also a PITA to clean.

So, here's my advice: when you buy your Caframo fans, buy a spare set of blades for each one you buy--the blades are fragile, once you've departed the US, it can take a long time for replacement blades to get to you from Canada, and life is so much better with air circulating enough to dry your perspiration.

The fans we bought look like the O2 fans. They came with an AC adapter and a cigarette lighter cord. They had internal rechargeable batteries.

I cut the fused lighter plug off, installed an inline fuse and wired them into the cabin services circuit.

They blow a ton of air and run for about 4 hours after shut down which is nice when farting around below getting off the boat.

One is still going strong the other lasted 3 years and failed recently.

At around $20 I think I got value.

I just couldn't be convinced that $150 fans were the way to go.

I had gone to the "TARGET" link provided by a previous poster and in their listing as in most retailers websites they have a section where you can rate the product based on personnel experience and two persons had reportd fires.

Sari Timur had mostly hella fans we started replacing some with the Caframo. For about half of the price. We were pretty impressed with the results and told our local Singapore supplier she should look into these. She did and started offering them quite a bit cheaper than WM. So we bought some more from her. Think we will stay with Caframo for a while.

We are still using Hella fans approaching 20 years old with no failures. But they are a PITA to dust. In Mexico we ran them 24/7 for 7 months with no problems. And moved them around to concentrate the air as necessary. No reason to switch at this point; they all still work. Looks like there are other good fan choices, but we have no complaints-although we probably bought them when they were cheaper.

MarinTech. We bought the first one up in Langkawi and were impressed so ordered one in the States (Only had room in Luggage for one) and told Jessie these were pretty good she ought to stock some. The next time we wandered into the shop she said she now had them and the price was the cheapest we paid anywhere at that point.

our boat, being a production boat, came with the ducts pre-installed for air conditioning, which we opted not to install. So I used 5" muffin fans (removed from dead mainframe computers) to pipe air through the ducts. Works great because there's very little draw, almost no noise, and the fans keep the air circulating through the sleeping cabins.

I run the muffin fans 24/7, and after four years they haven't even hiccuped.

Make sure to pay attention to polarity when you wire them. If you switch the positive and negative leads, you'll fry the fan instantly. Don't ask how I know this.
