Best Simple DC Electric Guidebook

Hi all,

As I am refitting, I find the need to ramp up my dc knowledge (from not much to good basic understanding.) Have not been able to find a thread here, though I'm sure there is one somewhere.
Other forums have a plethora of suggestions...
how about this one?

"Sailboat Electrics Simplified" by Don Casey

Note: I am an electrical moron

Casey's book is very good. So, too, are others, including those by Charlie Wing and Nigel Calder.

Thanks btray,

My understanding is that Casey's is more user friendly for the uninitiated.

My go to book when I have questions about DC wiring is the 12 Volt Doctor's Practical Handbook. Very simple for simple minds like mine and clear illustrations. Of course Nigel Calder is close to a god when it comes to boat systems.

Re: Best Simple DC Electric Guidebook

I used the 12 Volt Doctor's Handbook and Nigel Calder's book. They always got me through my electrical challenges.

Thanks for the link Gord. Dang where were you last week I just rewound an alternator of mine, took a long time, lots of finking, and drawing, and then sore fingers....
Anyway now its putting out more than it used to, so the book is going to help.

Re: Best Simple DC Electric Guidebook

I know we all like free stuff, but I have to say that I strongly suspect that .pdf version of the book is probably a bootleg copy. That is, a violation of the author's and publishers copyrights.

I could be wrong, and maybe it doesn't matter to a lot of people whether the author gets his due or not, but I thought I should mention it.

The company that wrote that boopk has been out of business for over 20 years.

That does not mean the book is in the public domain. However I wouldn't worry too much about getting a bootleg copy as the only copies I can find for sale are used and the author and publisher don't get any royalties on re-sold books. So even if it ain't exactly legal, downloading the PDF version isn't hurting anyone except Amazon.com, which is paying < $2 for used copies and re-selling them for > $17.
I may just download the PDF copy and put it on my Kindle (I bought the paper version in the 1980s).
