Re: best online battery cable source
What lengths are you looking for?
This is going to sound insane... but the best price I found on battery cable under 15 ft is Walmart jumper cables. Seriously it was like 1/2 of the best quote I got for the same gauge. The cables I bought were marked + and - and I simply soldered eyelets onto the ends after cutting off the clamps.
Maybe its an option if you have shortish runs!

Genuinedealz.com
I bought from them and was very pleased with them. The quality was so far above big generic stores that it is completely different level. They will properly swage on the terminals also for a reasonable price.

Not to mention physical convenience to the AICW at Brunswick, Georgia. Also, easy access to I-95.
I'm not associated with the company other than a satisfied customer.

Re: Best Online Battery Cable Source
Just a quick comment on installing / buying nontinned wires for the marine environment. That includes battery cable and regular wiring for the boat. You might save a bundle by buying Walmart jumper cables or cheap radio shack wire but in the long run it will haunt you. The corrosion factor of a nontinned wire is amazing compared to tinned. The corrosion can and will happen even if the wires are not immersed in salt water. Save a little now or??

I don't want to take this off on a tangent, but there are many who disagree with you on this (pretty much all of Europe). Many people believe tinned wire is not required and a waste of money. There are certainly boats out there for many many years (30+) without tinned wire.
Personally, I would install nontinned wire if that was the only thing available or I was on a budget. I would be extra careful with the terminations and ensure I used proper heat shrink with sealant.

Re: Best Online Battery Cable Source
Before you buy it, do a comparison shopping for tinned battery cables at Genuinedealz and Greg Marine Wire Supply. I did this and Greg came out much better and a very good service as well.

Re: Best Online Battery Cable Source

Re: Best Online Battery Cable Source
It's all based on max amps per the piece of gear your installing and wire length. also part of the equation is to determine if you want 2% voltage drop or if it's ok to have more of a voltage drop.
Have a look at Blue Sea write up. https://www.bluesea.com/resources/1437
Cheers

Re: Best Online Battery Cable Source
On battery cables, I read of another gent who saved a good bit of coin by buying the cables to lead to his windlass, from a welding supply shop. Non-tinned, but... for a long run needing big wires it's a real attractive option.
Most of the books listed via this search http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...er%2Caps%2C673 are good ones to have in your library, but in particular. For sizing wire, plus a multiplicity of other boat projects, pick up Nigel Calder's
