Battery Charger Problem

I am wondering if any of the members know where in the US I might be abnle to have my battery charger serviced, circa 1990's, preferably somewhere in the northeast?

Not the answer you are looking for, but I think it might be cheaper to buy a new one, unless something very minor is wrong (like a blown fuse or diode that is in a simple circuit)

Absolutely agree. The technology has improved markedly in the past 18 years.

If you tell us a bit more about your setup (batteries, capacity, etc.), we might be able to recommend a solution which wouldn't cost an arm and a leg :-)

With good Iota 75 AMP units going on eBay for $155 I'd have to agree that replacement has to be cheaper / better than repair.

2nd the Iotas too! I love em! Why? Plug in and forget about it.

I'll third the Iota recommendation. I've got a 55-amp model on my boat (for the dedicated windlass battery bank) and a 45-amp model in my ham shack (for the 2 T-105s which power all my radios).

However, before we make a recommendation it would be good to know what cburger has aboard that Wetsnail 32 up there in Nyack, NY where, apparently, the Tappen Zee Bridge interferes with Internet availability.

How do I know that? Because one of my sons lives just across the river and is sometimes difficult to get an email response from :-)

motor is out for a new one, no batteries currently in boat, has three positions for batts, two house, one engine. Current charger is an old guest wired to the battery isolater. Fuse holder seems to be lose and shorting out the fuses. Don't want to spend hundreds if it is a simple fix.

I just took mine to a local HAM. He repaired it for parts. Check for your local HAM club.

What do you mean repair for parts? was he able to bench test the charger to confirm it was working prior to giving it back to you?

Yes, he had a lot of equipment. He even had a television broadcast setup in his basement. He was retired and had time on his hands. He fiddled with electronic stuff for fun. The charger worked fine for years.
