Re: Balmer 6 Series Alternator - Who Makes It?

Electromaax now seems to have stopped manufacturing their own alternators and are instead selling Balmar alternators now? At least that is what their website seems to show.

Maybe they will actually work now, although I would never deal with them for customer support reasons.

It looks like they're selling Balmar AT series alts, as well as their normal CS130D frame alts.

Then it appears that they are now painting their alts white like Balmar does. They used to be left as bare aluminum (which they used to use for marketing by saying how bad it was to paint an alternator).

I think it is just the way the images were blown out by flash. They are still bare aluminum except for the Balmar AT series...

I recommended that they send the alternator into Mark Grasser for trouble shooting and repair. Below is what Mark found when he took the alternator apart.

Chris I received your alternator today. So far this is what I have found.

Frist the way the internal wiring was done, despite following the directions for installing the external regulator the alternator control is coming from the internal 2 stage regulator. There are many electromaax clients out there thinking that their alternator is being controled by their external 4 stage regulator and would be surprised to know that the internal 2 stage build into the alternator is actually controlling the alternator..

I'm afraid I may be one of these Electromaxx clients. I've installed the 160 amp EM alt onto my Westerbeke 44a along with their external regulator and serpentine kit. I've never seen more then 100 amps and then only for a few minutes before settling down to a steady 60 Amps. I'm charging a 600 AH Lifeline AGM bank. Communication with EM on my issue has been mixed at best.

Any suggestions on how I could make sure the wiring is right would be appreciated.

Thanks!
