A/c isolator

If my AC shorelside connection is to a combined inverter/charger, do I still need an AC isolator, or does the inverter perform the same function?? It has an auto pass through function that sends the shore power through to the AC panel when it detects shore power input, but I don't know if it's hard wired or via an isolating transformer??

no the ground goes straight though. a galvanic isolator (cheaper and smaller) or isolation transformer should be added.

Re: A/c isolator

Makes sense. Thanks. One other related issue. There seems to be quite a range in price of isolators. However is one 30 amp model pretty much the same as the next?? Are there any particular features to look for? I have read that the low frequency models are heavier, better and more expensive , but most boats I know use the compact cheap high frequency model. Thanks again.
