You've offered up nothing. It figures.

You most likely don't even own a Westerbeke, but just like to critisize advice offered up by others.

If its like my 7.6 BTD, you have to hold down the preheat when starting and let it go after it gets oil pressure. If you did that then???

Thanks for all the advise. I will be on the boat tomorrow and check out all info that was given. Thanks Kevin for the info you sent will be a great help. There is a red button on the gen set but was told probably a stop button. I said I was new to boats and electrical stuff but not afraid to tear into things to get it fixed. I work in the oilfield for 40 years and work on all types of equipment. Will try and send pictures later Thanks

8.0 Westerbeke Generator want start

The red button is a reset. Did you hold down the preheat while hitting the start switch?

Please let us know when you get it sorted out

Greg

Use the switches on the unit. If you only use the start switch nothing will happen. Hopefully that is you're only problem! Good luck!

Yes tried using the switchs on the unit and no response. I checked the batteries and they are fully charged

Re: 8.0 Westerbeke Generator want start

We have a Westerbeke 10btda and had a similar problem. Turned out it was a bad connection on the starter solenoid. A few taps and it started right up. If your switch is not moving, think your problem lies there. Maybe some electrical contact cleaner or something and try to free it up otherwise a new switch. Good luck!

Top toggle is preheat - if that doesn't go down then try the contact cleaner or replace it. As said before it has to be held down while the start toggle (middle) is depressed. The preheat switch energizes the fuel circuit and defeats the oil pressure cut-off, so you keep it held for a few seconds after the engine starts, until oil pressure is up.
