48V Wind or Solar drop converted to 12V for charging

Does anyone know why people don't get high voltage wind and solar and then drop it down to system charging voltages?

example in theory:
A 48vdc wind generator rated at 400 watts producing 3amps at 48v dropped down to 14v for charging would boost amperage to about 10.

I get the principle that each device you connect, like a dc to dc converter, is going to add power loss, but you will also get less voltage drop over longer distance of cable runs.

Thoughts.

Re: 48V Wind or Solar drop converted to 12V for charging

Higher voltage solar panels converted to charging voltages via MPPT controllers are pretty much the normal now.

Wind generators are typically AC, so the conversion is no problem.

There is no free lunch - a 400W wind generator is 400W regardless of voltage.

Re: 48V Wind or Solar drop converted to 12V for charging

I was wondering because most Wind Generators are internally rectified and was just looking to minimize voltage drop over a distance by using a 48v then dropping for my 12v system. I haven't found an Charge Controller that has 48v range input (56ishV) and 12v range output (14.4Vish). any suggestions?
