32vDC Inverter Charger Replacement

I have 'inherited' an 80-year old 62ft motor yacht, which is in many ways original. Twin 100HP Superior Diesels, (working just fine!), and a mixed 110v-32v-12v electrical configuration. The original infrastructure is 32volt, with a Heart Freedom 20 32v inverter which blew up last month. I had just spent $2500 on new 32v batteries, so I'm thinking I need to stick with this (the whole engine interface is 32v, and the boat is wired end-to-end). The 12v system works fine, and I am already migrating any new equipment to this.

First Question:
Any suggestions please, for a replacement Inverter/Charger? Output required is 1500-2000W. I also have a Constavolt 32 charger, which works well, so I guess I should also ask if I actually need the additional resilience of a combined inverter/charger?

Additionally, any suggestions for a suitable Isolation Transformer.

Many thanks,
Eamonn.

Hello,

I just picked up a 46 Bertram. I bought 8 new 8v batteries to replace both engine banks. My charger that came with her from 1982 is dead.

I cannot find another charger that had a float of 33.6v. Everything is 36v at float !!! That will burn up these batteries quick !!!

I have never seen an inverter that is set for 32v.

We are both in a predicament !!!

Re: 32vDC Inverter Charger Replacement

to the first post. if the constavolt is a single stage charger which I think it is then through it out.

I've never looked for a 32v charger / inverter. don't know if they exist. it should be easy to find an inverter only though if you can't find the dual

to the 2nd post. why would it float at 33.6?

12v float at 13.6. 24 will float at 27.2 so 36 seems fine for 32. it's all relative / ratio. you don't just add 1.6v to everything.

Re: 32vDC Inverter Charger Replacement

Hello,

My error... Just re-read the paperwork that cam with the batteries. it is 2.2v for each cell float voltage, not 2.1v. Don't know why that was stuck in my head !

2.2v X 16 cells = 35.2v

I am happy now, and so will be the Detroit Diesels !!!

Thanks for that !

Hello,

@ MV Content.. The Outback VFX3232M is perfect for you !!!

I only have 3 bilge pumps connected to the 32v banks (engines are the priority in my situation), and have the backup bilge pumps, and inverters as well as solar and wind turbines on the 24v bank.

Great feedback for all with 32v battery banks !!! Thank you very much !!
