3.0 mercruiser charging problem

I have replaced my alternator , fuse link attached to starter sylinoid , tightened belt and still is not charging.. I do get charge wen i disconnect fuse link n wire str8 to starter can i do this with out harming my new alternator , or causing a fire ?? My only guess is its something with the starter its not allowing current threw ?? i got a 30-300 amp fuse block idk wat else it could be ne ideas ??

Use your muti meter and check resistance across the fuse and check voltage on the starter where the alt wire connects Could be a bad wire end or loose connection

i did check it at end of charging wire n it has 2 volts coming out im loosing it through the starter or the fuse but its a new fuse block ?? thats y i was wondering if it could be the starter all i can think of ??

You said 2 v but I am assuming you mean 12 volts? If your alt is chargeing you will see around 14.5 volts suspect the alt need service
if you remove the fuse you will lose protection should there be a short, should not present a problem to remove it just to test

The starter plays no part in this as it is actually using the starter terminal as a junction block for the battery and the alt charging wire

okkk thanks soo if i test the alt output wire at starter it should be 14.5 volts or so .. so i wonder if i got the wrong fuse block it is a 30-30 amp the alt is only 60 amps ??well ill do some more tests i thought the starter may of had sumn to do with it the terminal end of the alt chrging wire looks good n clean ...

how do i check resistance acroos the fuse ?? just ohm it or test volatage ?? it is a new alternator !!

Just check resistance across the fuse should be close to zero resistance or check voltage at battery and then alt side of fuse with motor off should be the same.
if your alt is capable of putting our 60amps the fuse should be 60amps at least Make sure the alt wire is on the same terminal as the battery cable

ok i did check it at the batt and at alt side of wire it is the same ..mid 12s and the batt wire n alt wire r on the same terminal .. I did not check the resistants it seem as the voltage is not running through the fuse for some odd reason wen i connect the alt wire directly to the terminal i get 14.42 volts ????? i was reading in my manual and it sais the fuse is not neccesary it has a circuit breaker n alt has regulator built in but idk y it is on there do u ?? i know for protection but it doesnt wanna work with it ??? i ran it for a while n nothing was getn hot or burning do u think it will be ok ?? the fuse block i got is a sierra 30 30 n the alt is 65 amps i beleive it looks different then the one that was on there is it possible the wrong fuse link they dont make but two different ones for this type of hook up n they connect the same ????

y i did some more research and on the fuse block i bought and it looks like the actuall fuse is seperate duh ??? the old one is just a block this one is by blue seas and the fuses r seperat ima get one today n hopefully it works thanks a lot for all ur help ....
