220vac to 110vac

What would be involved in converting a 220 volt system to a 110 volt system on a sailboat? Sailing buddy is thinking of buying an ex charterboat in the BVI's and bringing it back to the states and I thought someone here might be able to help and comment on the conversion expense.

Why not keep it 220? Most marinas I've been to have 110 and 220 outlets. Would seem to me you'd have to replace converter refrigeration etc... Unless of course they are already 110 running off the 220(only 1 pos hooked up)

Not too many people around here are worrying about the conversion.
The americans when Australia were happy as is.

You might be too.

The only think you don't get would be your electric hot water.

If you decide to change over then the wiring in your boat is all the same 110 and 220 (no matter what people say) as the production method calls for it.

So its just a change of the battery charger and water heater element.

The power socket can just use a pin converter so you don't need to replace them.

We don't use the sockets in port anyway. We have bought a fan and are running it directly off the wharf from a double adapter

*air con etc would be differnt.

Most in St Martin are 220/240

The used Moorings charterboats he is looking at are all 220v as were the 6 Beneteaus we have chartered in the BVI's. Link is www.mooringsbrokerage.com
