12v and 24v battery banks

On our "new" old boat a '77 Moody 42 PH Ketch we have two battery banks: 24v for main engine and many systems and lights and 12v for starter on gen set and various instruments and radios. My question: can I charge my 12v bank (2 group 29 105 ah) by linking (with battery isolater) to one of the 12v batteries that make up the 24v bank??

Put a 12 V alternator on the main engine. Most probably the same cost or cheaper and no chance of running the 24 V bank down. Just MY $.02, Mike.

The Sterling charger will only charge the 12V bank if the 24V is full. Works very well, and easier to install than an alternator. I have one myself, one of the few pieces of equipment that has "just worked".

If you just hook your 12V to half of the 24V you will have inbalanced charging currents between the two halves of the 24V bank. Not recommended.
