Re: 12 volt deep cycle OR 2 6 volt LTH batteries info please

My lead Crystal batteries are made and supplied by Betta Batteries in Australia, they can be run flat and recover without damage, do not sulphate. I have sailed my Prout 46 from Brisbane, east Australia, to Fremantle, west Australia in the past year and have had no problems with batteries. As I am not an expert marine electrician I can only say I am very happy with my lead crystal batteries.

It seems they are only available in Oz. OP, where are you currently?

WRT "battery meter" simplest and most accurate for lead banks State of Charge is "SmartGauge" by Merlin, marketed and supported by Balmar in the States.

If you also want to meter AH in and out, get a second opinion on SoC, shunt-vased coulomb counters like Victron BMV-702 are good units.

A simple Volts readout letting you see both/either circuit is nice, but not an accurate guide to SoC.

Buy 2 Optima 12 volt bluetop gel marine batteries. Sold at Autozone in Mexico, if not in stock they can order for next day delivery. 9,000 pesos. No worry about leaking acid. Excellent longevity and recovery. Good investment.

4 x 6V "Golf Cart" batteries rated at 120Ah each will give you a total capacity of 240Ah @ 12V.
Stu, T-105 GC-2 batteries (Golf Cart-2) are a little taller and 225ah each, so that would be 450ah total/2 for 50% = 225 ah useable.

Those are not gel, they are AGM....So why do I bother about it? You might have wrong charging voltage if you think of them as gel.

My response was unclear/incorrect.

(2) T-105 in series are 225ah and 6v + 6v = 12v.
(2) T-105 in parallel are 450ah and 6v.
