Having bought a 2007 model Lagoon 440 catamaran
some 6 months ago i've been going through it and checking all systems and fittings.
One thing i notice with the alloy spars, that is the forebeam, boom and mast
is the total lack of any compound such as 'DURALAC' when fittings were fastened.
This lack of a corrosion preventative
on threads in particular that terminate or go through aluminium means they seize and will likely break upon removal
A word of warning it's much easier and convenient to try undoing these fasteners whilst in 'home-port', if they break then drill and use an 'easy-out', heat gently and hopefully remove BUT make sure your new fastener is coated with DURALAC or an equivalent.
To have fastenings in a seized state invites huge maintenance
problems in the future and very likely in a foreign country where replacements
are impossible to obtain. Don't take it for granted that because a rigging
specialist built it that it'll be ok.....
