Greetings fellow Lagooners
Recently, the flange on my
windlass broke completely in half (pic is upsidedown, but you get the idea). [And not that it matters, but I was not on board when this happened.]
I initially thought about replacing just the flange; however, I am now resolved to upgrading several related
anchoring components to include new
windlass, heavier
anchor and new
rode if necessary. I’m doing this, not because I have more
money than I know what to do with (I don’t), but because the original plough
anchor is underweight and seriously rusting, and I want to renew my confidence in the
anchoring system. So, I’m seeking wisdom from fellow
Lagoon 500 enthusiasts who hopefully have some sound
advice.
So, first a couple of facts about my
boat:
-Lagoon 500 2012 model
-Lewmar V5 windlass
-Anchor
rode: approx. 200’ 3/8”? chain and 100’ line
-Plough anchor approx. 55lbs
Questions:
-Can I go up to 121 (dansand recommended:
Rocna 55 (121lbs.) with the same model windlass
-I want to go big or go home. What’s the best upgrade for my windlass assuming we go with the 121lb
Rocna?
Any other relevant considerations? TIA!
