We purchased our 2007
Lagoon 440 only five months ago. There are no inherent issues known with the 440 that I am aware of. They are a well built and good sailing vessel from
Lagoon. In saying that there are things to look at that go with the age of the vessel. The main things we looked at were the following.( in no actual order of concern)
1)
Rudder bearings
2)
Engine servicing
3) Age and
service left in
sails
4) age and
service left in
batteries
5) "" "" ""
solar panels and controllers ( we had 4 x 130 watt
panels and old PWM controller which we upgraded to 4 x 300 watt
panels and new
MPPT controllers)
6) age of
electronics. If original
GPS,
radar etc they may be usable but in reality old in modern day terms and require upgrading. (expensive to replace)
7) age of trampoline - does it need upgrading or replacement
8) age of
anchor chain and service life left
9) suitability of
current anchor ( we upgraded to a rocna)
10) age of
liferaft if on vessel and is it still in
survey
11) age and seviceability of
tender and
motor
12) Does it have enough refridgeration/freeser on board.
13) If
generator on board is it serviceble
14) if
water maker on board when was it last serviced and has it been pickled properly
15) When was lit last antifouled and what antifoul was used ( check so that if required a suitable antifoul can be overpainted)
16) Make sure you check saildrives oils for
water intrusion, may require service and seal replacement ( relatively normal straight forward job).
17) All
cushions and matresses are now getting on in age and may require replacement. This can be a costly excercise.
We were very fortunate in that most of
electronics,
batteries,
cushions and
sails had been replaced in the previous 12 months making a substantial cost saving for us. Hope this is of some assistance
