Saloon door problems

Hi

Have an issue with our saloon door sliding open in big seas despite being latched shut.

Does anyone have a solution to keep it more securely closed?

A suggestion regarding a temporary measure would be great as boat at sea for the next 3 days. And it is going to be annoying having the door sliding open repeatedly!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Saloon door problems

On our sportfisherman we put on of those SS hooks on the outside of the door, looks like a screen door hook. I assume the doors were similar but the door would lift up and over the latch in decent wave action.
Of course that meant when you went forward you locked anyone into the boat, but it was not possible to lock yourself in though.
Not a Cat of course but maybe similar doors?

On edit if you want real temporary, a wooden dowel laid into the track will keep it from opening and leave no mark

Re: Saloon door problems

Hi,

Be carefull with the solution you choose as it will lock everybody else in, and in bigs seas if the captain needs help for something that is urgent, help will not come.

Do you have some kind of elastic rope on board? Bungee cord, spearfishing gun elastic etc.
Something that would hold the door, but if forced allowing people out in case you need help.

Be safe and enjoy the ride!

Re: Saloon door problems

I know somebody has to make an electric door, one that would stay? Not a temporary thing of course but for long term. I was on a 65' Viking Sportfisherman that had an electric opening sliding door a few months ago. I think it was like Star Trek, opened as you approached, just needed the whoosh sound
We actually almost always left our door open, but we were in and out a lot fishing as it was of course a fishing boat.

Re: Saloon door problems

Not sure if 450 is same as 400, but on 400 at top of door are small black plastic "slides" on side of door. These are adjusted with a screwdriver or Allen key ( can not recall which) & prevent door from vertical movement - ie allowing door to unlock in rough seas.

Hope this helps.
