Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

Yep Steve your quote is probably the first thing that comes up if you google. You should also consider the position of your lights. The ceiling is normally not the best location for night vision lights.

Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

We're drifting off the topic...

I am just looking at converting the stock L450 ceiling lights to red/white. I do not want to rewire the boat or install lights at different locations. I have enough projects as it is and I like to keep things simple and stupid. I prefer to focus on enjoying cruising.

I have used the G4 red/white LED bulbs on a 49 Beneteau and they are great!

BRYAN C 2W IP40 two color.

Have a look at this page Quick Marine Lighting I believe this is what you are looking for. Two color replacements for OEM L450 down lights available in IP40 also IP66.

Yes! I believe these are the L450 lights. Thank you!

I ordered some cheap G4 2-color led bulbs and I will do surgery on one of the lights, when I get to the boat in December. If that does not work, I know where to buy the whole fixture.

I cannot find a manual for the 2-color lights. I hope they only have two wires and turn ON red first.

Bad news. From quick:

At this time all of our bi and dual color lights are 3 wires. Our manufacturer in Italy is actually looking into changing to a 2 wire system now. I am not sure when it will be available since they are in the beginning stages.

Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

I have some info on the stock 2012 L450 cabin lights.

The metal cover pops out but there is no need to remove it.

The lights are held on the ceiling with mouse-trap springs. At the spring openings, closest to the spring, there is a tab. It you push the tab back, while pulling the back cover, the cover will come off. The LED bulb is removable.

So, one could replace the stock LED bulb with a two wire Red/Warm-White LED. I plan to do this.

You can find Red/Warm-White G4 LEDs at Alibaba (China) for MUCH cheaper, but you have to buy about 100 of them. Even at that quantity, they are still cheaper than if you would buy 10+ from USA (most are made in China anyway). You will also have some spares.

That's it. The project list is getting longer and longer...

Do you have a link for these from alibaba? I might replace my 'pucks' that are sealed with the 'older' style lights.

Having red cabin lights is so much better than having just a red/white headlamp during night crossings, especially in bad weather with no moon.

The stock lights seem to be sealed but I may try to take one apart to see if I can retrofit them with red/white LED bulbs. Any ideas are appreciated.

We replaced all of our cabin lights with 5" dome lights from superbright LED. They put out 190 lumens and have been dependable. $29.95 each. I agree that red is excellent at night. FYI, I sealed the switch and elect pot with clear sealant and installed one in the cockpit. Been working two years without issue.

Hope this helps.https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/led-dome-light-fixtures-non-waterproof/

Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

I forgot where I got mine from but there are many who make them.

Here's one: https://m.alibaba.com/product/601121...17009.9.22qRiE

You can also get G4 sockets from Amazon, eBay.

Our boat is getting launched in a couple of days and I'm not doing things that are easier on the hard or require lots of fresh water. I'll convert the lights in a week or so and ill take some pictures of how I decided to do it. Since I have 100 bulbs, I'll convert all the overhead lights. It will make overnight crossings easier and safer.

Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

I have a number of lights on my L 450 with burned out LED's. I opened up one of the units and found the disc pictured - with 2 wires coming out.
Does anyone know where I can find direct replacements for the bulbs?
So far, I have only found complete units for sale at around $100 usd each !
The writing on the disc says " Quick SP129 V01 "

Not repairable. I spoke to quick. you need a whole puck, but i think you can get these for about 60-70USD.

I am thinking about replacing mine with the old style Beneteau/Lagoon lights that use a single G4 type connector bulb. So you would just put in 1 LED. But you need the whole 'kit'.

I doubt you will find a direct replacement but if you hunt around you may find something like this that fits. They come in many shapes and sizes.

Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

Regarding replacement of the LED bulks for interior light - this can be easily and cheaply done - we bought a 1.6W Disk with G4 Pins from a local lighting supplier. All we had to do was cut the pins down to the right length. The disk fitted into the puck no problems.

Re: Replace the stock L450 cabin lights to red/white

We installed a dimming red/while light directly about our nav table which is excellent. At night, with the dimming at max, it provides sufficient light for the whole salon. And its tuned down when at the table. I wired the 2x 12V wires into the adjacent Helle fan which at the end of the day has made this also a very simple solution.
