In another video, VPLP says the L46 is heavier than the L450. But the spec says 16.6t for the L46 vs 16.9t for the L450F. So once again, hard to know what the truth is with displacement numbers.

cubic rule for prices works well, when comparing to L 40. Take ratio of length and power of 3 will give you price and maintenance costs, compared to the other vessel.

L46 is ~ 16% longer and ~ 60 % dearer than L40. This translates into sqrt (length ratio) ~ 7% better sailing performance.

Sailing boat performance is very expensive. Buying new sails certainly beats buying larger boat , cost wise, if one is after sail performance.

However, buying more performant cat is really equivalent price to buy longer non-performant cat. Ie 60 ft lagoon will perform as 50 ft performance cat, and prices ~ the same.

what i am getting to, is L46 will not get me to sell my boat and replace.

Once you make your boat your own by re-fitting it to your needs there will be hardly a new vessel out of factory to beat it.

We would not trade in or 400S2 for a 46 or for a new 40 now, we have more comfort on board than this one factory out-fitted would have, even with the full options list checked.

L46 debuts this weekend at the Düsseldorf boat show. Miami show will be it’s first visit to the US.

We take delivery in November of ours, a 3 cabin version. Living aboard and cruising world wide.

Saw the 46 and the 40 yesterday at the exhibition.

The 46 owners hull is nice. Quite spacious,the moving cockpit banch seat is a liitle awkward... Lots of space in the cockpit too somehow, the seating area to the left and a dance floor to the right. The roof design was also a little unusual, the production will be different, it was only the prototype... Did not see a space for a washer dryer, but she had a small dishwasher if I remember it right. It was too crowdy for looking to all the details, onan generator in the port cascelle locker instead of the second water tank, anchor chain guide slightly different, I dont know where you can mount the bow blocks for a spinacker or parasailor, different sloop design of the bows with no preparation for them.

Nice cat, but I would prefer the 450s.
Seems to me the old design was in some aspects better, but it could be because it is a prototype.

Visited the 40 too, she is really way too small, everything feels like a toy, small winches and only 2, all manual, very little storage, narrow hulls...

Step up in interior finish quality imho with lots of cupboard storage. Batteries were mounted in the stb engine bay which was a little odd. As the water tanks are also mounted in the fwd lockers behind the windlass im not sure what's under the floors. We did find the washing machine location but were told its only for a 3kg unit but may be expanded on production boats. Boom extends way past the back of the cocpit roof making access to the end difficult. A better boat than the 50 we thought.

Im not a fan of the internal layout of the 50 nor the cockpit so opinion based soley on that. Against the 46 was the battery and water tank location, but perhaps this was not a production example. Have to wait to sail the 46.
