Re: New Lagoon 460
I like the boat! I like that the change on the galley and also the little change on the nav station.
I will be cruising with 3 kids so the FB scares me a bit. Still a couple of years to see how it works.
I also need to find out how to put one or two optis (probably with some davits with a rack).

What are you scared of in relation to the children?

Re: New Lagoon 460
By FB you mean fly bridge, right? If so, I wouldn’t worry about easy to fall out as the seating looks like a lowered and secured bench and the bulwarks are relatively high for smaller children. Up and down the stairs could be the most difficult part for young children. Remember that catamarans have an easier motion and the added height of the flybridge has a negligible effect on the motion you experience on board. Take a look at the Catamaran Impi YT videos for how they experience their flybridge on their Lagoon 440.

Good point, that’s one of the biggest drawbacks to having a fly bridge as the person sailing the boat, and anyone else up there, is completely separated from the cockpit and salon part of the boat. I’ve heard people suggest mounting a camera under the bimini to see what’s going on. And depending on the rear overhang of the bimini it may be difficult to see the sterns from the helm. OTOH, people with flybridge cats often say most people on the boat spend most of their time up there, so no separation as everyone is together up top.
One of the biggest positives about cats is that all the living areas bar beds and heads is on the one level. Designs like the Nautitech Open 40 and Seawinds and Maine Cat take this to an extreme that makes for wonderful open plan living and sailing.

Re: New Lagoon 460
The Nautitech open is too extreme for my taste, it is more a party boat than a cruising boat. I like the separation of cockpit and salon area. I also do not like the double helm aft on the Nautitech.
For me still the halfbridge / sportbridge is the optimal design, best protection from the elements, close to salon / galley and cockpit when on watch, good overview on the activities there. Especially if you are sailing with kids and one person needs a nap off watch, the helmsman can keep an eye on the kids in the salon/cockpit while sailing.

And so 4 L450 buyers out of 5 are stupid ? Come on, don't be insulting, ST works for you, we can totally understand that, but FB works very well for many of us.
That new L46 is an impressive boat. So it seems the cockpit bench can be slide forward so you can fully open the table. But then you cannot use the stairs anymore. Maybe there shouldn't be stairs at all ? turning around the cockpit to reach the FB would be ok for me. Pretty much like on the L440.
I don't understand why they have to reinvent the saloon setup every time. The L440 setup (which we find on outremer & other boats) is simply the most efficient use of space IMO. Chart table to the front, starboard side of course ! Yeah, right of way to the right, you know for those rare occasions we are motoring

Over 600 fly bridges sold and that took over a week to get a bite! I’m disappointed, I thought for sure I’d hook Beany...

Re: New Lagoon 460
FB are great for charter with crew or sailing with friends, it opens up more recreation space and is nice to party. It also offers more disconnected privacy spaces for gathering - forward cockpit, aft cockpit, salon, bridgedeck.
For a cruising family, shorthanded or even singlehanded the sportbridge is simply safer and better, also the boom is lower and more accessible.
There is a design for every preference / need, good to have the choice.

Re: New Lagoon 460
Hey all,
We have been stuck here in Les Sables for 3 weeks. The L46 is on an adjacent pier. Just snapped some photos and created a quick page on our website.
They can be found here:
www.sailingblueinfinity.com/lagoon-46
Let me know if you want anything specific or in more detail, we'll be here a few more days.
Cheers,
Bob
