Need advice on used Parasailor

Came across a 168 sq.m. Parasailor lightly used(as new). Seller agrees to part with it for 3000EUR but I have two concerns:

It has been repaired after ripping(sailmaker fixed 200EUR).
I do not know the dimentions except the area, and that it has been made for a Bavaria 47(18 m. mast).

My question to the forum is:
How much does a horizontal rip weakens the sail(and price)?
Do Parasailor costum-make each sail or do they have "sizes" for different boats/rigs? In other words: Will it fit my(on order) boat.

I will be delivering the boat myself in March(FRA-CRO), and really would like to have a downwind sail along. Looking for a gennaker but was tempted when I came across the Parasailor.

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

Might be interesting finding out how they ripped it, but they are big sails and it could have caught on virtually anything during a hoist or drop.

Is there any chance of taking it to a local sail maker and asking for a report on it. What would the cost of an inspection cost? say Euro 100 (an hours work) at this time of year? if so that would be money well spent on a Euro 3000 sail I think.

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

169 sq m is the size Parasailor quoted to me for an L450, but no dimensions of height and girth. I guess the Height would be the "I" of 17.4m? I ended up buying an asymmetric spinnaker as price for the parasailor was over 13k USD. 200 Euro doesn't sound like a big repair. Does the price include sock and compression bag?

Price includes sail, sock and bag.
I have talked to the sailmaker who repaired it and he says sail looks good.

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

We are purchasing a Leopard 46 and the recommended size parasailor from Itec was a 156 m2 sail. It's a big bag to fit the sock and sail even when compressed.

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

Even in the best circumstances the the Parasailor doesn’t perform better than a usual spinnaker.
I used it several times, once to cross the Atlantic on a HR46
We compared the performance between a normal spinnaker and Parasailor
At the same size the spinnaker performance are really better.
Furthermore, the spinnaker allows to brace and to luff more, also on a cata.
If you intend to use a spi-sock, the spinnaker flows much better.
Have you ever wondered why the competitors have never adopted the Parasailor?

Sounds like a small repair and you have the sail makers statement to confirm the condition. The size is the one quoted by ISTEC and the one I have. It is by far my favorite sail and can’t be beat in downwind conditions. Be aware that they rip easy if caught on any sharp object. Sounds like a reasonable deal to me.

Hi woc and thank you for the useful information.
BTW: I have ordered the gennaker option from Lagoon but I am afraid eyes on the bows for the tack-points is not fitted. How do you fix your tack?

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

Update:
Bought the sail. Parasailers suggestion for the L450S was the excact same size and new price was 11000 EUR. With Easysnuffer and compression-bag + freight I got this for less than 4000EUR. Looks like new.
But then we changed our plans... Bought the sail for the delivery trip to Split, HRV. That will now we handeled by Lagoon for various reasons, so now I am thinking of selling this sail.

Kjøper den gjerne. Har du den i Norge eller ? Har en 2012 450 3 cabin. Mangler alle seil. Er for tiden i BVI Carribean. Hjem til Mars. Og din pris er NOK ?

Hilsen
Rolf

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

Hei Rolf,
Seilet befinner seg i Kr. Sand. Har annonsert det her på forumet for EUR4000 og det er mange som har tatt kontakt. Men foreløpig ingen bud.
Send meg en PM med mailadressen din så skal jeg sende deg mer informasjon og bilder.
Vh Tore

Re: Need advice on used Parasailor

Hi guys!
Sorry for the norwegian language. Won't happen again;-)
Bodin just asked me about the Parasailor I purchased, and if it is for sale.
And I replied YES IT IS, and told him to pm me.
