400: Maintenance Tips For Lagoon 400 S2

Hi all,

I have recently taken delivery of my 400s2. can all you more experienced sailors out there kindly give me advice on how best to maintain my boat?


I have bought spare anodes for my saildrive, some engine replacement parts, but what about things I never thought possible?

the best thing is to have enough basic tools on board to be able to manage anything unforseen. I have spanners, sockets, screwdrivers, cordless screwdriver, cutters, multimeter, spare bolts and nuts, spare shackles, tape, hacksaw, spare line, hydrometer for the batteries, filter changing tool pliers, pipe wrench, allen keys, some wooden pugs for through hulls if needed lots more, I can make a list if you need but basically I haven't found a need for anything I don't have on board yet.

If you aren't sailing too far from home for now the main thing you need is to make sure at least one engine will run when you need it.
It's a new boat so there shouldn't be much unforeseen stuff, just the usual chacks and maintenance.
Have you owned a boat before?
I always check the engines before passages, check the water filters, oil levels (engine and saildrive) along with bilges, turn off the gas if you aren't using it, carry 2 20l spare diesel containers (full) just in case you get low on fuel.

I will from now list all the experiences I have with this new boat.

Right now I am keeping the interior as compact and tidy as possible.

At 130am on 13th September 2013. I look "Alvina" out to Lazarus island. It was raining hell that day and it was drizzling during my 40 min journey from my berth at sentosa.

I anchored around 215aam. Wind was 25 knots and my raymarine alarm was beeping away due to my alarm indicator which I set at 25 knots.

I anchored 4 times. Each time I would get dragged and pulled but the wind. Finally I had a solid pull. I felt the whole chain tug and the chain was straining against the winch. It goes bang bang bang. A solid tug. I was so exhausted i fell asleep right after my bath. Using my ipad I was able to see the chart plotter on my raymarine screen

At 300 am I woke and I checked. Yes I was still at my spot.


530 am I woke. With a panic I realized I have drifted. Almost 1km from where I originally docked. It had drifted down the channel between kusu island and away from Lazarus.

I immediately rushed to the helm. I started both engines. I not only had drifted. I as in the middle of the most busy port channel in my country.


I thanked god I did not get grounde, did not crash into an rocky part of islands,


I also thanked god I did not hit into a boat.

How much anchor chain did you put out and how deep was the water where you anchored?
Did you attach the bridle?
One thing I can highly recommend is an anchor watch app for your iphone or ipad, so long as it has gps. try this one

Set it from above the anchor when you drop anchor and set the radius to suit chain + boat length. Sleep with it docked next to you and it will go off within a minute if you drag.

I second the anchor alarm for iPad . We added a 12 volt plug into our cabin, as running the alarm overnight can flatten the iPad.

16th September 2013

Took my sailboat for my 4th run. Sailed with jib sail and one motor which I alternated. Solid boat I must say.

Lagoon uses Velcro to hold the ceilings in place. How did I know? My ceiling fell off and I almost saw my speaker wire snap.

A service crew from lagoon came by and be helped me add more Velcro. Now it seems to be staying in its place.

Well lets find out???

I have noticed that you have installed a life-ring on the bow. Did you put anything in way of throwable devices for MOB on the stern as well?

Erdnase, regarding the anchor dragging...
How much anchor chain did you put out ?
how deep was the water where you anchored?
Did you attach the bridle?
Im curious to know why you dragged and make sure you prevent doing it in the future..

It's late afternoon here. 635pm here. Some may call it evening. It's raining and things are going slow for a sail boat.

But this morning was fun. My buddies leapt off the roof which is the highest point. Same level as the soft top Bimini.


Was just wondering whats the most exciting thing u could do with a catamaran and a nice hot day.

Finally someone who has the right question for me.


Ok here goes.....the wind was a roaring 25knots.....I anchored in 5m of water. I threw out almost 20m in chain and attached the bridle only for the last 5 meters.




Did I do it wrong? Anyone?
