400: Looking for L400 Owners with a Cruise RO Watermaker

I'm going to install a Cruise RO S30 on my 2013 400S2 Owner Version 3/3, looking for owners with the Cruise RO units, and where they were installed. Location of the modules and fixed panel. If you have pics or can snap some pics of the install, would be awesome, pictures are worth a 1000 words, as they say.

I'm set on getting the Cruise RO unit, many watermakers out there, this one fits my needs, and checks all the boxes for me. So, I'm asking to keep the thread to installing the Cruise RO unit, and to the L400 model. Different models have different spaces and distances, etc.

While I'm capable of doing my own layout of the install, would really help to see what is currently working, or possible what didn't work, and not make the same mistake of other installations.

I would go with the remote valving panel as well. That way you don’t need to access the membrane cartridges, everything can be done at the panel.
I’d also install an inline TDS meter although that’s not completely necessary, but also install a small water spigot at the sink for the sample water to run out.
Also I’d ensure that the membranes are lower then the exit of the spigot and that the brine exhausts higher than the membranes.
Doing this will ensue when you shut down or pickle it the membranes will stay full of liquid.

Don’t install anything anywhere that a leak will cause damage, and make sure your sea water filter cartridges are easily accessible and where some water can spill with no issues.

Not required but I installed an hour meter so that I could keep up with pump oil changes and to just know how many hours it’s operated.

The S30 comes with the remote panel as part of the system and has a hour meter on the panel on current design. The hour meter can be switched out for an inline TDS meter on the panel, as an option. However, would need to add the hour meter elsewhere to monitor pump hours. So, I'm just going with a hand held TDS meter and a product faucet at one of the galley sinks, as you suggested.

Hi, apologies for the delay in posting the details - but here's the details on how my SM40 is installed on my Lagoon 400 S2. I plan to fully document this once I find the time to do so.

Before I go into the details, a couple of important points:

- The blue braided high pressure hose that comes with the water maker is 3ft long and isn't long enough if you install in the same location as me. You need to ask CruiseRO to ship you a 5ft hose (the other braided high pressure hose that connects the high pressure pump to the membrane is fine).

- My lagoon has metric pipework, so interfacing to the existing pipework required some adapters to go to the imperial connectors as supplied by CruiseRO. I'll dig out the details and fully document.

- I had a few issues when I commissioned the system:

1. Some of the pipework leaked where it connected to the push fittings. I had to remove the push fitting and re-cut the pipe as it had some scoring on the end of it which was causing a leak.

2. The o-ring in one of the push fittings had dislodged itself. Something to check for if you have a leak.

3. The flow meter on the main panel wasn't correctly tightened onto its fittings. Had to remove it from the panel and tighten the fittings and re-fit into the panel. Not a difficult job, but was a bit concerning when I first noticed the leak.

4. No matter how much I tightened the housing for the carbon block filter it still leaked around the threads. Had to put PTFE tape around the threads in the end.

The water maker is installed in the port side forward cabin.

The control panel is located on the starboard bulk head as you walk into the cabin. When the cabin door is open it covers the panel. There is a handy access panel already cut by Lagoon underneath where the control panel is mounted. This enabled me to get to the rear of the panel when installing the water maker. Fortunately Lagoon have also cut various holes which enable the pipework to run to the membranes and boost pump etc.



I purchased the automatic fresh water flushing unit to and you can see the control box for this mounted behind this panel too, along with the through hull I put in for the brine discharge:



The carbon filter, pre-filters, boost pump and solenoid valve for the auto fresh water flush are installed underneath the floor in the cabin as shown below. Any leak here runs straight into the bilge:



The high pressure pump and membranes are installed underneath the bed in this cabin.

To mount the membranes, I first bonded two pieces of ply against the hull and then use coach bolts to mount the provided membrane brackets to the plywood. I then attached the membranes to the brackets - a two person job!



I ran the 12V DC wiring from the panel back along the rear of the seating in the saloon by pushing it with a wooden dowel.

Outside the heads in port hull is a cabinet (above the escape hatch) which contained breakers and an AC feed for the air conditioning units. I installed the breakers for the high pressure pump and could take an AC 240V feed from the input to the air conditioning breakers.

The panel unscrews, so it's easy to get access to wiring behind.

I installed a sample tap in the port side heads compartment at the sink. It's a Whale telescopic facet https://www.jonesboatchandlery.co.uk...scopic-faucet:



I took a fresh from the boat's fresh water supply from the manifold that's underneath the floor outside the heads. It required an adapter:



To get the fresh water from the water maker into the tanks I ran the hose from the panel through a hole that had already been cut for my air conditioning vents that went into the forward locker where the water tanks are housed. I wanted to fit a pushfit bulkhead fitting on the tanks onto which the fresh water hose would attach, but I couldn't get the top off the tanks in order to fit the bulkhead fitting. Instead I drill a hole in the top of the tank and pushed the hose in... it makes a good interference fit and I can sort it out properly later.

I'll have another look and see if I've missed anything from these posts.... feel free to ask any questions or for more photos.

It's quite a lot of work to get it installed, but the difference it has made to our lives onboard has been well worth it. We now have unlimited drinking water, run the washing machine when we need it and wash the boat.

The other thing I have to say is that the support from Rich Boren has been first class. Every time I've had a question he has replied very quickly, despite being several thousand miles away and many time zones.
