Re: Lagoon 450f Arriving in November

Whatever you do just go bigger with a modern generation anchor.

On left Lagoon supplied 25 kg Spade (should read Delta) now spare buried in locker

On right 40 kg Rocna that has served us very well for past 3 years.

The smaller Lagoon supplied anchor is a Lewmar Delta. If it was a genuine Spade, you probably wouldn't have needed to upgrade. Good anchors, but prohibitively expensive.

Normally you call a spade a spade, Paul?

I will bow to you superior knowledge, had not seen it for over 3 years. You are as usual correct just checked the inventory and OEM was indeed a Delta.

I put the faulty memory down to a recent illness that necessitated an 18 day stint without a drink at sundown. Who knows what sort of effect that forced Alcohol free period would have on ones memory.

In this case apologies for trying to call a Delta a Spade.

Re: Lagoon 450f Arriving in November

We have 40 Kg Rocna, works very well in most situations. Been cruising the Caribbean and Eastern US for 3 years, sets first go about 90% of the time. The other 10% usually comes with trying to anchor in harbors that are noted to have poor holding, but we try anyway..sometimes it holds well in these places , sometimes not. Most of our cruiser buddies have Rocna/Manson/Mantus - ones with the hoop, - all say the same.

18 days without a drink! You must have been close to seeing the gravedigger's Spade.

Re: Lagoon 450f Arriving in November

Ok thanks for all of that; I’ll order a Rocna 40kg when we arrive in Portugal.

Btw, will the lagoon supplied chain be sufficient for this weight hook?

Regards

I think the standard L450 is 12 mm - should be more than enough. The Rocna website suggests 11mm Chain (Rocna Knowledge Base)

One thing I've found very handy with my Spade anchor is the color. The tip is yellow and makes seeing it from the surface very easy which helps deployment, retrieval and certainly helps me when I swim down and check it's holding.

Re: Lagoon 450f Arriving in November

After much research we went with the Mantus 85 lb and it's happily held us in 45 knot winds without budging an inch. Any of the new generation anchors are better then the Delta the L450 comes standard with. We had considered both the Rocna and the Mantus and it was a case of what was available nearby.

Re: Lagoon 450f Arriving in November

I'm using a 45kg ULTRA, with the Standard 12mm chain and couldn't be happier.

So far (fingers crossed) it doesn't so much set, as glue itself to the bottom.
Couple days in 25-30kn Meltemi gusts at anchor and it was just fine.

Seems to reset well on swinging also.

Only had issues in Seaweed, fixed with a reset

Caveat, only had it a couple months, and I'm an anchoring noob, but so far, pretty happy.

Regards

Mark.

Thanks!

The 40kg has been ordered ready for Handover.
Thanks all for the advice.

Re: Lagoon 450f Arriving in November

OK, well better late than never - we now have our wonderful Lagoon 450f safely parked up in Vilamoura Marina. We took possession on 24th Nov 2017, our dealer, Ancasta Yacht Sales gave a fantastic handover and you can see highlight here, in this cheesy but cheerful video....

We've had motor boats for years but early retirement affords us more time and like quite a few others we've had one eye on blue water cruising for a few years, now we've done it here are some initial thoughts.

Come November we were chomping at the bit to get the new boat and right on schedule we took delivery on November 24th in Les Sable d'lonne, over two days, Ancasta were fantastic and we could have taken more time were it not for a narrowing weather window and a Biscay crossing...I'll try to get some footage up from that trip in due course.

For someone who has been around motor boats boy and man for most of my life, the transition to sail has been surprisingly smooth and happily pleasant. There've been no major issues with the boat and Ann and I are taking to sailing, we especially enjoy the challenge of learning and there's a lot to learn!

In may we will sail up to Galicia, We love it there and have more to explore, and then we will sail south to Tenerife in August, cruise the islands and then depart with the ARC+ in November.
We've so much to learn and loads to do beforehand but we have the time and the appetite...earlier this week we got our B1/2 Visas from the embassy in Lisbon, our ARC+ application is in and paid for, we are getting close to finding crew for the big trip but thats just the tip of the iceberg...so we will have questions to come and thanks for the mine of info and generous advice received from the forum already and still to come....

All the best

Nigel and Ann

Our favourite spot off Ferragudo beach

We have great weather for boating most of the year hear on the Algarve

A good forward lookout

We need to get better at this!

Arriving in Vilamoura
