Unfortunately not in the moment. I am stil on the dry dock in a tight space between lots of vessels, so I cant take a picture from the side for a good impression of the solution.

I am planning to be floating again in 2 weeks, so still lots of refit work to do until then...

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications

I have 2kw on the back. 6 x 360w panels.

Photos in the other thread on our 450F 'Refit for a cruising Cat'.

You could easily do 3 x 360w panels and have a very low profile setup. I know a Hellia 44 who's about to do just that.

At anchor atm, so can't take a side shot, but for reference mine stick out to just short of the end of the dinghy davits. Makes a great shade for the back.

Regards

Mark.

My only concern is that the 300 watt panels will go to far back, making my new good looking baby look like a spaceship.

Does anyone have any pictures of your solar installations from the side, I mean a picture of the boat from the side?

I seems like a 300 watt panel will go almost 1660 mm from the roof and back- correct?

Ok- enough about this- hoping for replies!
Why only put 300W panels when you can use 360W panels. Sunpower 360W panels and other brands will give you another 300W for the same area. will cost more but worthwhile.

I opted for the 96 cell 330Wp , they are smaller than the 360Wp, (1.05m x 1.56m) fit better, and provide 52V Vmp / 60V Voc. The higher voltage allows for thinner cabling / lower amps on the panel to controller connection.

For reference:

The Sunpower X22-360's are 59.1V Vmpp / 69.5V Voc panels, and measure 1558mm x 1046mm

Same size, higher voltage, more watts.

https://us.sunpower.com/sites/sunpow...lar-panels.pdf

These are the ones I'm using. 6 panels setup in 2 sets of 3-in-paralell to a pair of Victron SmartSolar 150/100 controllers

‎€435 each atm +VAT, from Sunpower Italy. (Friend just ordered some couple days ago).

Nice panels.... 30Wp more per panel. Expensive, but nice!

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications

Hi Everyone, I am brand new here!
I hope you can help with a question. At the moment we're looking to buy a boat. We love the light interior of the new Leopard 45 (2018), but our budget is a Lagoon 44 (2006) which has the very dark interior. I know the Lagoons are a great boat but I really want a modern interior look. I've been searching online everywhere for companies that do interior refits and can't find any in Australia. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is the difference between the interiors. Can you paint the dark wood light?? Does all the wood have to come out?? Is there companies that do this?? Is there any cheap, easy, beautiful fixes.?
Thanks so much for any suggestions
Julie

Hi Julie,

Its not all massive wood, at least at the newer boats, furniture is made of plywood with a thin decoration layer on topp, only the edges are massive wood, so sanding down and re-varnishing might be a problem. I am not sure if there are companies, that can laminate another thin layer of wood on topp or it, but it would be quite expensive to ripp out everything and re-fit. I guess, there are also 440 with lighter decor out there, not only dark ones, maybe just keep looking?

Talking Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications

Thanks so much for the answer The year models we can afford are all dark wood, but I was hoping we could add a different laminate colour on top of the existing.

Also, the one we're looking at is only 6 days sailing away from us so that is really appealing too

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications

Well almost any surface can be painted of course.
But the whole furniture is a big job, also professional
preparation of the surfaces inplace etc.

If you intent to ripp out the furniture and replace it
it would probably costs even more. Most is plywood
LEGO, screwed and glued, so tearing apart without
scratches is a delicate and time consuming work.

In production cats the furniture is built as block
in the factory and then placed / fitted in the hull molds
before the deck is set on topp. Usually they are not
intended to be removed or replaced by the owner,
so some connections are not dismountable without
brute force or cutting screws, simply because they
are in uacessible locations.

I am not sure about labor tarifs in AU, but I guess it
could add a significant bill to the budget if you do not
intent a DIY approach.

Of course there are great craftmen in Asia, where labour is cheap
and you can refit anything you want for reasonable prices.

Probably you need to check that the parts you want to alter are not
meant as enforcement for the structure too..

If its only the paint on topp... Probably doable somehow.

Another way may be to just set some accents and brite up the interior e.g by painting or covering large wall elements only (white ultraleather ore somthing brite and easy to clean), and enjoy the contrast to the left over dark furniture.

It may then look more like a condo than like a wooden coffin.

For my taste Lagoon uses too much structured wooden surfaces besides the real furniture as panels, walls etc. I would also prefer less wood, but then high quality.

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications

Bahaha! A wooden coffin is the perfect description. You are absolutely correct about the wooden panelling, the older lagoons seem to have added this "feature" everywhere inside the boat.

Thanks so much for the answer. I think you're right, we will have to start small and be prepared to live with some of the dark wood.
Thanks

Thanks

it's called "golden pear" by lagoon spec and it certainly isn't "very dark". Did you visit one ? Plus you never know, it may become modern again in a few years

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications

Julie if you look at the Leopards for example all of the “wood look is actually Formica wood finish that is vacuum glued onto the marine ply. This is finished off with solid wood cherrywood edging. The 2010 onwards Leopards they changed to Formica in light grey with a wood look like finish.

What’s my point is that yes you can Formica cover large flat surfaces to change the look of the boat for sure. It might sound ironic but the kitchen companies making kitchens deal with Formica the most so have a chat to your local kitchen figment guys to see pricing etc on Formica. It comes in large sheets the same size as a marine plywood sheet
