Looks good mark. Who made the solar frame?
I think we saw you briefly in graciosa but you were gone. He next morning. Did you have to supplement power on. The crossing or they handled all your charging needs ?
I might add the rainwater catcher to our panels. We have the same setup. Do you run a hose from the outlet to the water tank?

I bought a 2006 used L440 that came with genuine Volvo 3-bladed folding props on the 130S sail drives. We still don't know why, but we "spat" a complete hub and prop assembly last year, and for about 3 months while waiting for an insurance resolution and deciding to order another folding prop, we fitted a standard fixed 3-bladed prop. I believe the fixed bladed prop gave more thrust in both forward and reverse, and I do not believe folding props are a distinct advantage over fixed props on a large cat, and any saving on drag would be hard to measure and justify given the cost of folding over fixed. Maybe on a performance mono?? I only replaced the lost folding prop as insurance covered the accidental loss. Otherwise, I would have bought a pair of fixed props and sold the remaining Volvo folding props and hub assembly. I still would be way out in front financially.

On our boat, each folding prop contributes 0.5kt speed over non-folding. We consider 1kt to be significant, although others may not. We are far from a performance boat.

We have gori on our 440 and they work great.
Dont really bother using the overdrive feature on them though.

I'm not familiar with the Gori "Overdrive" system. How does it work mate?

Best to search it and they explain it on the brochure.
Basic way to put it is the prop blades fold in a different way in overdrive so you can run the motor at half the revs using less fuel and less load.
You reverse the boat and then switch onto forward to engage the overdrive feature.

We are almost finished with our modifications to Cruisin' Rhumb, our new 2015 Lagoon 450. As this is our second L450, we ordered her without some of the factory options so that we could customize some aspects.

Here is what we left off on our order, and why:
Bimini - we wanted a larger hardtop Bimini that I can walk on to tend to the sail/sail-bag.
Cockpit Refrigerator - we wanted to make better use of the available space with a larger capacity refrigerator. Plus, the optional refrigerator from Lagoon was not adequately ventilated for the tropics.
IceMaker - factory option is not tied into an inverter, and is not adequately ventilated.
All exterior cushions - we wanted thicker cushions and fabric & color that was not offered.


Here are some photos of our modifications:













I plan to replace the cockpit curtains (which I hate) with shades like the ones that Lagoon installs in the 52, 560, and 620.

And I am considering installing an arch on the back similar to this one that I saw installed on a Lagoon 440.


Has anyone else installed an arch on a 450 yet?

Do a search for Roetter in CF. He has installed an arch on a couple of L450s for his solar panels.

I think Roetter has used posts to support the aft edge of his solar panels, and it looks nice for that purpose. I'm considering an arch that replaces the aft stanchions and life lines with an arch that has built in seating, scuba tank rack, grill mount, and ADDS additional support to the davits. The last photo in the above post is of an arch on a 440. I have not heard of an arch on a 450 yet.

The Anteries and Manta catamarans have similar arches to what I'm considering.

Yes Rolf's are purely solar panel support, not strong enough for dinghy etc

Just on the aft 'arch', the solar panel setup there is perfect for both the panels' exposure and added shade, but probably best to leave the dinghy with the factory spec'd davits? FWIW, our setup follows, but we'd strongly advise orienting the panels north/south, rather than east/west as ours. The n/s orientation allows a lot more panels and also provides more shade...

Yes shade always important in any of the tropics. Not a lot of manufacturers really plan shade properly.
