Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications
Whilst a 440 not a 450 this has been one of our winter projects that is nearing completion, using 3 - 250watt 36 volt panels feeding into a GSL MPPT for 4x400 amp Lithium cells.
Solar panels cost around $1,000:00. Ive made the array totally tilt-able, it's at it's lowest in the pictures, it can be bought back to vertical for stowing in a big blow. I also incorporated brackets for gaff and 2 boathooks, the boathooks being a bonus for the aft helm..
It may help with some ideas...

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications
Yes all powder coated, i'm not sure of their quality here but i can re-do some years down the track when back in Australia, just waiting on the cells and cables!!!!!

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications
Interested in your foray into Chinese knockoffs. Was considering Solbian but the 865 per panel is outrageous. Does the quality seem to be there in the panels? Especially for marine? Leaning toward a few Kyocera but this is interesting. Also, in buying multiple panels, did they ding you for multiple shipping charges? Very very curious as I am about to pull the trigger on solar for my Lagoon 420.

We're modest power-suckers by the standards of some (no air conditioning, or water maker or washing machine or dishwasher) but still with the 2 x frigs and 1 x freezer and a reasonable (10 speakers) stereo plus the nav electronics and auto pilot and the usual array of personal electronics and a few galley appliances, we wouldn't want any less than our 654W, with high efficiency in low or limited light.
Anyway, well done!

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications
Hi Paul, hard to say but the quality looks good to me. The shipping did not increase with 4 rather than 1 panels but you can click to increase the quantity on the web site and the quote updates including shipping. Shipping was prompt and contact was good even after deliver. Payment is held in escrow by alibaba and the seller only paid when I confirmed deliver.

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications
Thanks D&D. Yep the L450 uses a fair bit of power, I find usually between 10A and 25A and we would prefer not to have run the engine or generator if possible

Re: Lagoon 450 Modifications
Hi Dave
Looking really good and the price is nice for flexible. That is $1.65/W plus shipping. I might get some myself and for a friend.
I don't assume these are of the walk-on type with the textured top coating. I am wondering if I should add them to my fixed ones, but will probably hold off until I know if I need more.
Just did a quick calculation on your numbers. 36deg south. We are pretty much at equinox, so the sun is at 54deg elevation at noon. The cosine of that gives you 58% of the power compared to vertical. You report 20.1A. At 480W and probably 13V you would get 37A. 58% of 37A is 21.5A. Your result is pretty good then. Just expect a drop in efficiency when it gets warmer

BEP600 DCSM and Ultrasonic Tank Senders
I think that most production yacht makers are very poor in providing Fuel/water/holding tank gauges and Lagoon don't even provide total A/H remaining in the batteries info.
Why do the makers give fuel and water tank info by putting the sensors (screws in the side of the tanks) up the side linearly when the tank is not linear!!! For example on the Lagoon 450 the fuel gauges read 70% when the tanks are 50% full. A water tank gauge reads 50% full when there is only 35ltrs left out of 175ltrs (20% full)!!!
So I fitted the BEP600 DCSM ( DC Systems Monitor (DCSM)) and the Ultrasonic tank senders ( Ultrasonic Tank Sender).
I now have very accurate readings and I can customize to set high or low alarms.
