Very good! That's a productive attitude to have. You'll find lots of great folks on CF, with lots of knowledge to share. You can often find people in your geographical area that will be willing to have you as crew, too. (Don't be shy about asking.) Books are great, forums are helpful, but nothing beats good old experience.

Again, welcome to CF.

Lagoon owners group

Lagoons,

Just like to know if some of you Lagoon owners would like to start a formal Lagoon owners group.
Please let me know.
I can help you set up forums catered to your different model Lagoons.

Here is an example of one we have going.

why so many lagoon 420's on the market on yachtworld - did they not come out right? How are all the people who bought them on this thread now - still happy?

After four years and 16,000 miles We are still very happy with our Lagoon 420 Hybrid. I do not believe there is any other boat in our price range that could have taken a family of eight across the Atlantic and back from the UK and to the Med and back in such comfort and safety. That said, the 420 is a bit slow in comparison to other cats in the class and takes a good breeze to sail and is best suited to winds above 10 knots. Two 420s did come first and second in the cat section of the ARC a year or two ago, but I guess they enjoyed strong winds that year. The 420 has class leading internal accommodation space for her size, which brings with it the weight of a superstructure to match, hence the sluggish performance. On the other hand, the 420 is able to carry a lot of gear without severely reducing performance. We carried over 4.5 tonnes of supplies and equipment on our Atlantic Circuit.

It looks like a lot of the 420s are beginning to come out of charter, hence the large number on Yachtworld. I think they represent exceptionally good value for money and can thoroughly recommend them. I thionk they are likely to have stood up to charter use and abuse quite well.

Regards

Chris

I think I'll buy a Laggon 420 and would like to ask some questions

Hello.

After theoretically searching for a while I think I will concentrate my search on either a Lagoon 420, 420 S2 or 42 TPI. Maybe, but I doubt it, I'll find a good priced 470, but ... dreams are allowed here, right?

My main plan is to get a cat dirt cheap and replace everything, which needs to be replaced for the next 2 years and a life onboard. Off course there are great 1999 (around €150k-€170k) out there and cheaper charter boats (example €105k asking price for a 2004 L420), but again... I throw everything out, hit the same price tag, but know all is new.

Am I wrong?

To Lagoon owners here my question, on what boat to concentrate? Where are big differences and what kind?

I am 6'3" (183cm) and a must is enough headroom, which all mentioned Lagoons have I guess.

Please just answer in short form. I can imagine this theme has been discussed earlier. Or send me links.

Thanks in advance. I love this forum. By the way, my budget is around € 150k.

Does anyone know if you can add inside throttles to a 420?

I haven't seen throttles at the NAV station on the 420 but a lot of 440s have them. On the 420 the helm and throttles are easily accessible from the saloon, on the 440 it's a long way to get to them, so it seems that's probably the reason you see them more on the boats with a fly bridge. I have a smart pilot, and a monitor which displays the E120 screen and a keyboard at the NAV station which lets me drive the NAV system. Only need to go to the helm for the throttles.

Re: Lagoon 420 Owners & Fans

Lagoon 420 owners - I'd love your help/advice.

I'm looking at a diesel 420 with 40hp engines.

The short production run (2007-2011) makes me wonder if there were so many issues with the 420 they had to be fixed in a 421 with a different name, rather than a 420 S2 etc.

Would love to hear from ACTUAL OWNERS (past or present) or charters about any issues you wish you'd known about before buying, performance, comfort, etc.

Those with diesels - were the 40hp engines good enough - I noticed a lot of people who replaced the hybrids have gone 75hp.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Lagoon 420 Owners & Fans

POH

We love our 420 with diesels. The 40hp Yanmars are more than adequate, and we get a good 7kts at cruise power if the boat is clean.

Absolutely unnecessary to go to 75HP.

Sails well too.

I like the 420 configuration, and prefer it over the 421 which has the helm position throug the Bimini.
