400: Lagoon 400 - Gelcoat colour match

Hi all,

I need to patch a few drill holes in my 2010 Lagoon 400. Have tried white Gelcoat but it is too white. Have also tried adding a touch of black, but that just made it a very light grey. If anyone has advice on which pigments to add to a base white Gelcoat to get a reasonable match with Lagoons "off white", this will be appreciated.

I tend to use the white 2 part body filler one finds in motor parts shops.
1 large tube white paste and 1 small tube hardener.. have used it on a variety of different boats effectively.. do not forget you'll have to buff the surrounding area to get the original colour back from sun/weather bleach..

I'm not sure if they changed the gel coat color or not on the 400's, but on the year 2000-2006 Lagoon 410's, snow white from Jamestown Distributers matches well.

After a few experiments and some timely advice from Tuskie " add a touch of brown" (thanks Tuskie), I have found that to basic white, add a little Almond Ivory plus a touch of Dark Brown. I have achieved reasonable results - that is boss is happy. Note existing gel coat colour changes slightly throughout boat, depending on how much sun exposure each surface has had.

I purchased my supplies from http://fiberglass-sales.com.au who have four locations in Sydney.

I had a reasonable amount of non slip surface to repair and rather than producing my own mold, this company now produces male & female molds for Lagoon 400 - http://gibcoflexmold.com - good quality product - just use a little PVA release agent! As always, postage was the killer!

I believe what you are looking for is actually a touch of red.

I recently had some gellcoat work done on our Lagoon 450 and I asked what they do to get the right color match. They said they use white with a touch of yellow and a touch of gray. They use the same mix on 450s and 400s and I can tell you that I can't see any difference in color after they are done. In fact if I didn't know it had been repaired I couldn't see it at all.
