39: Lagoon 39 Experiences?

Yes Alfred. The current is calculated using the paddle wheel and the gps. It appears the current is 1-1.8 kn from behind though, which is what I would expect sailing south along that coast. So I guess for the 9.3kn SOG, STW is closer to 7.5kn. Still a respectable speed and I'm sure comfortable and relaxed aboard the L39. Keeping an eye on the SOG as well as STW helps determine passage timing and planning, as well as helping to understand performance up and downwind. Enjoy fig de foz if you're still there and have a beer with boatman.

Monte: Yes, you are right. When subtracting the current in each case (blue arrow in the B&G display), I get the following:

TWS=12.3 kn TWA=167 deg STW=5.6 kn
TWS=16.7 kn TWA=158 deg STW=6.8 kn
TWS=19.7 kn TWA=153 deg STW=8.2 kn.

Cheers all. Solar panels for the L39 2014 models are flexible and on the coachroof instead of the davits. They also did some other minor modifications for 2014s like add a small ladder to access the coachroof. Would be interesting to know what tweaks they've done for the L39 2015...

Quite sure that both the 380 and the 400 is faster than the 39, when all have standard sails. The code0 will help the 39 reaching, however. The ARC and ARC+ will give some indications. I'll sail the 380 in the + version

We just got back from the July 4th weekend. On our upwind sailing we were in 19-20kt winds with the main and jib and pointing at about 35 degrees and maintaining at about 5kts. We did not use motor or flatten the jib, just in it's standard configuration. Still waiting on our Code 0 to get the UV coating and be installed.

Factor asked about apparant, and honestly can't remember which instrument I was watching.

I apologize, but it's only my third time out and we are still very new to sailing, so still trying to figure all this out.

Hi Mike well that sounds like a pretty decent effort going upwind, just keep doing what you're doing! We got the Code 0 rigging from the factory but had the Code 0 itself made in the UK. We did get UV coating (clear plasticy stuff) but it basically all shredded off in the first few months so maybe watch for that. That said, we almost never actually left the Code 0 up anyway due to concern about the wind grabbing the furled sail half way up and partially opening it (I forget the term for this, butterfly wing or something).

Any mods/photos of 39s out there?

Thanks for the heads up Bunt. I'll definitely watch out for that on the Code 0. Our broker is also a sailmaker for Ullman Sails, so we should have some kind of warranty on the coating - or maybe I'm being too optimistic! :-)

I like the davit mods. We just bought two kayaks, and that might be a great place to store ours as well. I'll have to look into that.

Hello, we own Mardi Gras, a 2014 Lagoon 39 located in the BVI, hull number 27. For mods, I've done the following after taking delivery:

1. Installed 3 air con units, 2 ea 12k btu/hr units under the forward bunks, ducted to the aft cabin, forward cabin and fore peak berth. 1 ea 16 k btu/her unit in the salon.
2. Installed Northern Lights 9 KW gen set in port forward deck locker. Had to remove the 2 NDE factory potable water tank.
3. Installed 2 custom built 40 gallon potable water tanks under the forward berths. to restore my water capacity.
4. Magnum 2800 watt pure sine wave inverter.
5 replaced the house factory installed truck batteries with Lifeline AGM's
6. Extended the davits by 2 foot to be able to hoist a longer dinghy, installed a pair of wire stays to support the increased bending moment due to the extended length. dinghy does not scratch gel coat on insides of hulls now.
7. Doyle lazy bag
8. Eva Kool 120 liter cooler mounted behind helm
9. Magna SUP/Kayak bracket mounted to stantions
10. 12 inch Samsung tablet mounted to Nav table area, with Navionics boating, serves as second chart plotter along with android apps.
11. Modified jib sheet traveler block sheave to prevent it from hitting deck when sheet is loose or flogs.
12. Dometic Col freeze CF 50 place on shelf next to salon table
13 removed hand rail on starboard stairwell to allow better access to salon table seating.
14. Custom fitted quiet waterproof mattress covers.
