Re: Lagoon 39 Experiences?

hull # 61 was sailed up to Danmark last week and did well, in 49 knots wind did 14.9 knots, with 2 refs in the main and half the genoa out.
it was sailed by a very experience cat sailor his wife and the owners.
he is also here on CF, so maybe he will tell us more from the tripp.

Lagoon 39 Experiences?

Careka, sounds like the delivery of hull 61 may have been a typical experience for seasoned skippers for that part of the world but those weather conditions would keep me in port. Impressive in that the 39 just handled it like another day. Hope to hear from the owner. Congrats to whomever it may be.

Re: Lagoon 39 Experiences!

Please Careka, I'm only 68!
Yes we sailed L39#61 the 1000 nm from Les Sables to Denmark. Compared to the L380, the L39 is heavier (3 tons) and has more beam, and we sailed about 12 hours with the wind and seas on the beam - wind from 35 to 49 knots. The L39 is quite a bit more stable - or undercanwassed - than the L380, and we used less than of its righting moment, but it was dark and the boat was new. Our only problem was the autopilot, - the drive unit stopped for a few hours, but the rest of the trip it worked very well.
Packing the mainsail clue-end into its Lazy bag is difficult, but otherwise there was no problems, and many improovements compared to my 7 years old L380

Just have to work a bit harder and longer a L39 can be yours Salty. Don't know if Santa can help you out.

Thanks for the report.

So in more normal winds 5-20knots how do you think she will sail ?
Can you list the advantages as you see them?

Cheers

Re: Lagoon 39 Experiences?

She's three tons and under canvassed, or so I have read. But, with innovative mast placement many sail configurations are possible to take advantage of the rear mounted mast and large foresail. No doubt her weight makes for a stable motion in a seaway = high safety factor. All trade offs in design that can be managed in some manner.

Salt, you helped me out on my 'go ASAP versus dream boat' thread. A used Antares was the 'dream boat' that I was referring to. Now you understand why I had it stuck in my head like you have the Lagoon stuck. But you helped convince me that 'go ASAP' is really the best plan (or at least should be highly highly considered), which means no Antares when my daughter graduates high school in 2 years. I'm getting okay with it now. You helped end my obsession with the Antares. Thanks brother.

All the best,
