Re: Lagoon 39

There seems to be a shift in the lines of modern boats, both mono and multi, that I can't seem to appreciate. A number of newer boats, including this Lagoon, seem to have less appeal to me than boats designed even just a couple years ago. Seen the new Bavaria Vision? Is it just me?

The Lagoons have really gone to hell in the style and quality departments. I looked at some European monos briefly during this last boat show season, and found them also oddly unappealing in terms of style, though I didn't take the time to understand exactly why, being squarely focused on the catamaran market.

I think maybe the mono makers are trying too hard (two wheels on a 39' boat?) and the cat makers are not trying hard enough.

Budget(380), performance (39), luxury (400)?
Just guessing.

Which model has to go?

The three boats Over All Length (OAL) are only inches apart.
Lagoon 380______________Lagoon 39___________________Lagoon 400
37'-11"_________+7"_________38'-6"__________+9"___________39'-3"
The 380 is the oldest so it will be the first to go, but not yet, they still sell well. getting close now to 700 made. and why stop makeing something that sells.
((Why do WV make Lupo , Polo , Golf? All smal cars, they do so due to there is a marked for them, ))

And a ...., i got this today,
Hook & Moor - YouTube

and the 380 sails very well i heavy sea , it does not have to be 40 fot,
The North Sea is my home ground.

waiting for summer to come

I agree, I would assume that as long as they still get orders for the 380 they will continue to make them. They will surely be making decisions based on market reaction to the 39. If the 39 steals all of the new orders, I would expect the 380 to go away. Probably the same for the 400. If enough demand exists for all 3, then why stop.

I am sure that most in the market for this size Lagoon will be anxiously waiting on reviews of performance, interior room, payload, etc... Detailed comparison of all 3 will surely be made by many of the Sailing publications.

Whatever the outcome it will be very interesting to follow. I for one hope that the 39 lives up to the performance claims.

Here is a pict I made with photoshop where the lagoon 380 layout is superpose to the Lagoon 39 layout it give a good idea of the difference between those 2 cat. If somebody would like the 2 file with the 2 layers let me know.

Will Photoshop spit out an animated loop gif with - say - a 2 or 3 second delay? That would be cool to see!
