I'm a total novice inexperienced sailor, but I like cats and, from what I've seen on the internet, I really like Lagoons.

I like this new Lagoon 39, but I agree with others that the rounded edge interiors are more appealing and I wonder the justification for the location of the gauges.

I've got something to work towards!

Interesting...didn't think of that perspective, but of course it now sounds obvious...

Is this then another case of marketing reaching for the lowest common denominator? Perhaps, but you might think that one builder at least would buck the trend, especially given the likely cost differential (rounded vs square corners) vis-a-vis the enormous overall vessel price tags involved.

Or maybe it's a bit of both...cutting corners -- Blame casablanca for the pun! -- and perceived fashion.

In any case, we're firmly with Cotemar here. Square corners on a vessel are a bad idea.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. The cabinetry in these things is designed in such a way that it cannot be easily modified.

Worse, it also cannot be repaired in any sensible way when it become damaged. Whole panels have to be replaced - if you can manage to get (or make) a replacement.

According to the specs the 39 has only 6 foot 2 inches of headroom in all but the salon if true this is much less headroom than even the 380 which Lagoon publishes at 6 foot 5 inches in most places on the boat. If true this is unfortunate for taller sailors! That said the specs are not always right and in fact the spec sheet has places where it says things like 6'2"/2.03m or 6'5"/1.95m so it is hard to say what the real headroom is in the cabins.

The motion on 7m+ beam cat is not that severe, if you are not rounding 5 capes on yearly basis. Well, there is no doubt that soft corners are added security, but than it will add weight and cost. Than others will complain about speed and $ ...
