Re: lagoon 380 vs 410
I compared the 38 and 40 and there was a MASSIVE difference. It was like every section of the boat had an extra 2 feet. The bathroom (head!) alone seemed to be 2 ft longer on the 40. Everything was so much bigger, the beds, the living area, bathrooms, external decking. It's hard to explain where that extra 2 feet goes!

I have sailed both and the Admiral and I prefer the 380. I am 6'6" and the sidewise berths are too short. I am also not a fan of the engine under the berth and the owners head/shower seems larger in the 380. The 410 does have an incredible freezer and did perform a little better than the 380. There seem to be more 380's out there and they are still making em so that tells me something. Then again my opinion is just that, sail what you like.

I'm not the market yet for a cat, but I'm 6'6 too.
In addition to the berths, how did you find the two in terms livability being tall. I understand the 380 has better overall headroom.
I currently think the Lagoon 400 is the best cat for a tall person in this size ~40 feet, but living in Sweden (cats are not popular here) I have limited hands on experience. It would be very interesting to hear your views.
Cheers

Re: Lagoon 380 vs 410
I agree with ausaviator. I've been on both the 380 and the 410. The extra 2 feet does make a difference in the comfort of the vessel.
I don't understand why Lagoon felt the need to take up (waste, IMO) so much space with the fixed seating aft of the salon table in both of these boats. When on board with a crew of 5, we were always dancing around each other because the seat on the 380 and the island on the 410 always seemed to be in the way in the highest traffic area of the catamaran.

If you are looking at the 400 as opposed to the 410 then the 400 has much more headroom than the 380. I found that the 380 had more than the 410 and with the exception of a couple of locations below (specifically the forward port berth and shower) I could stand up fully. Where we really noticed the difference were in the owners head. The commode in the 410 seemed particularly cramped and the bulkhead leading into the head is VERY short and in the 20 days we were sailing the 410 there was not a day that went by that I did not hit my head. We are the market for a Lagoon but am leaning toward a L420 for even more room. The best vessel in the 38-41 foot range I have sailed was the Main Cat 41 with 6'9" throughout, but it is a warm weather boat.
Best of luck with your search-
Fred

Thanks for your answers Fred.
Lagoon seems to be the cats with best headroom for us tall people. I never thought a cat would be an option for me, but I for fun stepped on a L400 at a boatshow and was very surprised about the headroom and that I would fit.
Cheers, Johan

Re: Lagoon 380 vs 410
i need to look at the 380, all the 410's are charter versions, a bunch of 380's are owners versions.

That is the conclusion i also came to for my price-point. There are also little technical things I like the Lagoon better for and some I wish were different but all-in-all they seem to be the best of the compromise.
Best of luck with your search and look forward to seeing you out there; well once we both have boats.
Fred
